CARNIVAL CRUISE LINE REVEALS NEW CARNIVAL CELEBRATION VENUE HIGHLIGHTING 50 YEARS OF FUN

The Golden Jubilee to Represent the Evolution of Carnival Fun Ships,

Including Mementos from Earlier Vessels

MIAMI, April 27, 2022 – As part of its ongoing 50th Birthday celebration, Carnival Cruise Line is introducing The Golden Jubilee, which will celebrate the 50-year history of America’s Cruise Line, on its newest ship Carnival Celebration, debuting this November. The new bar and lounge will be part of the ship’s final, to-be-announced zone, and will highlight Carnival’s evolution of ships over the last 50 years, weaving its past with its present and looking to the future. The announcement was made today at the Seatrade Cruise Global Conference in Miami.

The Golden Jubilee, on Deck 6, in the same location as The Brass Magnolia on Mardi Gras, will feature artwork, memorabilia and original pieces from Carnival’s earlier vessels that will be incorporated throughout the space bringing Carnival’s 50 years of fun full circle. These include:

  • A striking bar beneath two-deck-high ceilings adorned with a multi-piece brass chandelier and surrounded by reproductions of blueprints depicting the evolution of Carnival’s Fun Ships, including some hand-drawn designs by world-renowned architect Joe Farcus.

  • Chairs recreated from TSS Carnivale’s Riverboat Lounge paired with cocktail tables from Carnival Fascination’s Hollywood Boulevard adorned with signed sketches representing movie classics by iconic caricaturist Al Hirschfeld.

  • Original 17’ by 7’ full-height etched glass, nickel and mahogany partition wall with 24 windowpanes from TSS Mardi Gras’ casino, separating the bar from the promenade.

  • Original decorative etchings of musical instruments as well as polished brass and glass night club doors from TSS Carnivale that will frame one of the lounge’s entrances, allowing guests to physically walk through Carnival’s history.

  • Original bronze statue of Carnival founder Ted Arison and Finnish shipbuilder Martin Saarikangas, given as a gift from the Kvaerner Masa-Yards to the line upon delivery of Carnival Sensation in Helsinki, Finland, in 1993.

  • Reproductions of hand-drawn sketches by Farcus blended into mirrors, offering guests a glimpse into special Carnival moments like Carnival Fascination’s naming ceremony and Carnival Inspiration’s first transit of the Panama Canal.

  • Floor tiles surrounding the bar that feature a stylized maple leaf pattern reminiscent of the maple leaf design motif from the Grand Ballroom on TSS Mardi Gras that carried over from the ship’s former life as Empress of Canada for Canadian Pacific Line.

  • Mirror inserts integrated into the bar front and bottle display inspired by the etched glass inserts of TSS Carnivale’s main lobby doors.

There will also be round windows instead of squared windows, reminiscent of the portholes on the line’s original ships, to create an ambience similar to the classic cruise ship bar and lounge, as well as a stage for live music and dance floor to enhance the overall feel of nostalgic elegance.

The specialized bar menu will take guests on a journey through time as well, featuring an early version of line’s logo introduced in the ‘70s, and the most popular cocktails throughout the decades since 1972, Carnival’s founding year. Offerings will include classic and vintage cocktails such as a Harvey Wallbanger and Tom Collins, reimagined in Carnival’s own unique style with premium ingredients and elevated presentations.

“The Golden Jubilee is the ultimate nod to our 50th Birthday – a nostalgic but timeless lounge where our guests can re-live and connect with Carnival’s yesteryears while enjoying a glamorous and elegant space that embraces our current Carnival style,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line.

The adjacent promenade will also serve as a unique look through Carnival’s history featuring:

  • A first-of-its-kind porthole gallery installation that will tell the Fun Ships evolution story through a series of six decorative porthole windows featuring three-dimensional dioramas for each of the five decades of Carnival’s history and one representing the company today and a look to its future.

  • Original vintage engine telegraph from 1955 installed on TSS Carnivale and permanently set to “Full Ahead” sign as a symbol of Carnival’s forward movement.

  • Coins for every ship in the fleet, both past and present, embedded into the promenade’s floor design.

  • TSS Carnivale model, recovered from MS Inspiration, at the entrance to the Carnivale Restaurant.

  • 1:100 scale, 12-foot-long ship model of Carnival Celebration.

Carnival has announced five zones aboard Carnival Celebration – 820 Biscayne, Celebration Central, The Ultimate Playground, Summer Landing and Lido. Additional details and the final zone on Carnival Celebration will be revealed in the near future leading up to the ship’s inaugural sailing from Miami on Nov. 21. Once in Miami, the ship will sail five-, six-, seven- and eight-day cruises to the Eastern and Western Caribbean.

Carnival Celebration will be the second Carnival ship to be powered by a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) propulsion system, part of Carnival Corporation’s green cruising platform, and will include an award-winning roller coaster at the top of the ship. The ship will debut in November from the redesigned state-of-the-art Terminal F at PortMiami, the line’s third terminal at the port and its largest in South Florida. The terminal will be among the first at PortMiami to be shore-power ready in 2023.

Port Canaveral, FL – April 22, 2022 – Port Canaveral welcomed Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival Freedom on her first call to the Port at a dockside ceremony as the ship prepared for her inaugural sailing from the Port’s Cruise Terminal 6.  The Carnival Freedom, which will be homeported at Port Canaveral, will offer four- and five-night itineraries to The Bahamas and the Eastern Caribbean, with stops in Nassau, Princess Cays, Bimini, Freeport, Amber Cove, Grand Turk and Half Moon Cay.

“We’re excited to welcome Carnival Freedom to the fleet of Carnival cruise ships homeported at Port Canaveral,” stated Capt. John Murray, Port CEO. “Her arrival adds even more quality cruise sailings available from our Port.  We’re very proud of our longstanding partnership with Carnival Cruise Line, and our collective efforts to provide an exceptional cruising experience.”

"Having Carnival Freedom join Mardi Gras, Carnival Liberty and Carnival Magic sailing from Port Canaveral to The Bahamas and Eastern Caribbean offers yet another option for our guests to enjoy all the fun a Carnival cruise offers from one of our most popular homeports,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. “This is an exciting time for Carnival, as we just reached the milestone of our biggest booking week ever and the celebration of our 50th birthday. Our return to full guest operations continues to be successful thanks to our loyal guests and valued partners, like the team at Port Canaveral."

In keeping with tradition, Port executives presented Carnival Freedom Capt. Josip Mladina with a plaque marking the cruise ship’s first visit to Port Canaveral.

The 952 foot, 110,000-ton Conquest-class cruise ship has a guest capacity for approximately 3,000 passengers double-occupancy, and joins three of her sister ships that call Port Canaveral home, the Carnival Mardi Gras, the Carnival Magic and the Carnival Liberty.

The ship offers many of the features Carnival fan favorites, such as Guy Fieri burgers at Guy's Burger Joint, BlueIguana Cantina, Bonsai Sushi Express, Alchemy Bar and RedFrog Rum Bar, etc.

Holland America Line's Noordam Returns to Service in Fort Lauderdale

Ship is the eighth in the fleet to restart since industry-wide pause in March 2020

SEATTLE, April 25, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- After more than two years since the industrywide pause began due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Holland America Line's Noordam returned to service Sunday, April 24, 2022, at Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The ship embarked guests for a 21-day Panama Canal transit to Vancouver, Canada, that will position it in Alaska through September.

Noordam returns to cruise service for Holland America Line.

To commemorate the occasion, Holland America Line held a ribbon-cutting ceremony in the terminal to open embarkation, attended by the ship's captain and senior officers, with flag-waving fanfare from team members lined up to greet guests as they boarded the ship.

"We are excited to welcome guests aboard Noordam once again as we continue the pace of having all 11 of our ships back in service by June," said Gus Antorcha, president of Holland America Line. "With each relaunch we are able to bring more of our team members back on board and into the Holland America Line family. They have been waiting for this day to welcome our guests and get back to cruising."

Since Holland America Line restarted cruising in July 2021, Eurodam, Koningsdam, Nieuw Amsterdam, Nieuw Statendam, Rotterdam and Zuiderdam have returned to service with cruises in Alaska, the Caribbean, Europe, Mexico, California Coast and South Pacific. Volendam currently is under charter by the government of the Netherlands, positioned alongside in Rotterdam accommodating Ukrainian refuges.

Following the Panama Canal transit, Noordam will spend the summer in Alaska, offering seven-day cruises between Vancouver and Whittier, Alaska, along with one special 14-day Great Alaska Explorer roundtrip from Vancouver in September. With a strong cruise presence in Vancouver, Holland America Line is set to position four ships out of the Canadian homeport in 2022. Noordam also will offer longer Cruisetours that combine a three-, four- or seven-day Alaska cruise with an overland exploration of Denali National Park. Holland America Line is the only cruise line that extends land tours up to the unspoiled reaches of Canada's Yukon Territory.

After the Alaska season, Noordam departs on an epic sojourn westward with a 34-day Pacific Ocean crossing from San Diego, California, to Sydney, Australia, and a 35-day Australian Circumnavigation roundtrip from Sydney with 15 calls around the continent and scenic cruising in the Great Barrier Reef. The ship will sail into 2023 with 12- to 15-day cruises roundtrip from Sydney that explore New Zealand through March 2023, before crossing back over to North America for another season in Alaska.

Holland America Line will complete the restart of the remaining ships in the fleet through June with Oosterdam (May 8 in Trieste [Venice], Italy), Zaandam (May 12 in Fort Lauderdale) and Westerdam (June 12 in Seattle, Washington).

Princess Cruises Goes ‘Wild For Alaska Seafood’ With New Menus and Events Debuting Spring 2022

Alaska Voyagers to Experience Destination Dining While They Explore All the Wonders of the 'Great Land'

Menus to Feature Seafood Sourced Sustainably from Top Alaska Fisheries

SANTA CLARITA, Calif., March 30, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- Guests on Princess Cruises' Alaska voyages can now enjoy an immersive destination-dining experience as Alaska's number one cruise operator launches its "Wild for Alaska Seafood" program aboard six vessels sailing The Great Land this spring.

This industry-first, location-based seafood initiative features an extensive menu rotation of Alaska seafood dishes, along with destination-inspired cocktail experiences—including flights of Alaska spirits sourced from local distilleries—inventive cocktails such as "Creamy Cinnamon Moonshine," "Glacial chilled Martinis," and hand-picked, premium wine pairings to go with Alaska seafood dishes. This culinary program is another enhancement to the award-winning North to Alaska program, bringing local Alaskans, culture, and fresh seafood on board and ashore to immerse guests in all things Alaska.

"We take our role as the leader in Alaska cruising seriously and as such we're always looking for new ways to enhance our guests' experience, both on board and ashore, while helping them gain a deeper appreciation of this incredible cruising region," said John Padgett, president of Princess Cruises. "Guests are going to love these one-of-a-kind dishes that showcase the unique culinary offerings that add an exciting new dimension to our Alaska vacations."

Building upon Princess Cruises' popular "only in Alaska" menus, "Wild for Alaska Seafood" program will offer 30 distinctive Alaska seafood dishes with featured items every night in all main dining rooms. Recipes—created by Sodamin and his talented culinary arts team—will highlight only the freshest seafood ingredients with multiple varieties of Alaska salmon, including King (Chinook), Sockeye and Coho, as well as wild Alaska cod (caught by hook and line only), halibut, rockfish, Dungeness crabs, wild spot prawns and razor clams.

"When it comes to cruising in Alaska, more people choose Princess than any other cruise line, and now we're making the experience more authentic and memorable with fresh new seafood choices and culinary events not found anywhere else," said Rudi Sodamin, head of culinary arts for Princess who spearheaded the initiative. "We created our exclusive 'Wild for Alaska Seafood' program to celebrate its rich fishing heritage and fascinating local culture, all while enriching our guests' adventure as they experience and explore The Great Land. Our goal is to showcase Alaska's deliciously diverse seafood as well its history allowing guests to truly immerse themselves in this awe-inspiring natural wonderland."

Additionally, ships' specialty restaurants, including the Crown Grill steak and seafood restaurant and the classic Italian trattoria Sabatini's, will offer "Wild for Alaska Seafood" menu inserts featuring appetizers like salmon carpaccio and choices of pan-seared, poached, pan fried or grilled  wild Alaska halibut or Copper River salmon. "Guests will have the opportunity to enjoy a whole new range of Alaska seafood regardless of where they're dining that evening," said Sodamin.

Underscoring its role as a steward of the environment, Princess developed the new "Wild for Alaska Seafood" program in partnership with Pacific Seafood, Alaska Seafood, and Alaska Leader Seafood, all of which have an abiding commitment to environmentally responsible practices and are among the best-managed, most sustainable fisheries in the world.

"It is our responsibility to serve our oceans through an unwavering commitment to sustainability, being stewards in our local communities, and leaders in sustainable fishing practices," said Frank Dulcich, president & CEO of Pacific Seafood. "We are proud to partner with Princess in a mission that aligns with ours in serving sustainable, wild Alaska seafood, and the healthiest protein on the planet."

Meghan Rider, Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute's domestic marketing director, is equally enthused about the new program: "We are thrilled that Chef Rudi Sodamin and Princess Cruises are expanding their offerings of wild and sustainable seafood from Alaska across their ships. In choosing Alaska seafood, not only are they choosing a world-class product for their guests, they are also supporting the thousands of harvesters and the diverse coastal communities that make up the world-leading sustainable fisheries of Alaska."

The 2022 Alaska cruises and cruisetours season features six MedallionClass ships—including the new Discovery Princess —offering 145 departures with 14 unique itineraries from four convenient North American departure ports. Guests can choose from more than 150 shore excursions, including "Cook My Catch," a signature Princess Cruises experience in which guests embark on a fishing excursion and have the chefs prepare what they catch for dinner that evening.

Carnival Cruise Line Reveals New Miami-Themed Zone Aboard Carnival Celebration

CARNIVAL CRUISE LINE REVEALS NEW MIAMI-THEMED ZONE

ABOARD CARNIVAL CELEBRATION

Please note: some posts may contain affiliate links which means our team could earn money if you purchase products from our site

820 Biscayne to Celebrate the Culture of the Ship’s Homeport

and the City Where Carnival Began Sailing 50 Years Ago

MIAMI, March 23, 2022 – Carnival Cruise Line is revealing a new Miami-themed zone aboard Carnival Celebration, which will arrive to PortMiami this November. Named after the address of Carnival’s original headquarters, 820 Biscayne will celebrate the culture, architectural styles and flavors of the home city where the line was founded in 1972.

On Deck 8, in the same location as La Piazza on sister ship Mardi Gras, 820 Biscayne will feature a similar layout and venues but with influences and design elements that reflect the urban-meets-laid back vibes of Miami, perfect for relaxing and people watching or enjoying fresh sea air and ocean views. Bringing Miamian food and beverage offerings to the fleet, 820 Biscayne will feature:

  • Bar 820 – a half inside, half outside retro-inspired bar that will feature a “vintage cool” design with grab-and-go Cuban and specialty coffees for early risers on their way outside for some morning sunshine, as well as Miami-inspired tropical frozen drinks and creative martinis day and night.

  • Deco Deli – designed as a nod to Miami’s Art Deco mecca with colorful fonts and signage, the space will serve more than the classic deli sandwiches with an expanded menu that also highlights Miami staples including the Cubano (pork, ham, swiss cheese and mustard), a croqueta sandwich (ham and cheese croqueta, shaved ham and pickles), and pan con lechon (slow cooked pulled pork, melted onion and mojo sauce) all on Cuban bread.

  • Miami Slice – continuing to give guests the 24-hour pizza they know and love, the always-popular walk-up spot will offer authentic, fresh-from-the-oven and hand-tossed slices of cheesy goodness amid a contemporary and vibrant décor reminiscent of the late-night eateries on Miami’s bustling Ocean Drive.

Throughout this zone, guests will experience a unique take on Miami, combining elements from its past with its present. From beautiful artwork to fun photo opportunities like posing with flamingoes on skateboards, guests will feel like they’re truly walking around the ‘305.’

“Miami has been our home for 50 years, and in bringing a brand new ship to its port, we wanted to show some extra love to the city that helped us become who we are today,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. “Carnival Celebration will celebrate all things Carnival, intertwining where we have been with where we are going, and we can’t think about where we started without thinking about Miami and all of the fun that it represents.”

“We wanted to continue to give our guests the delicious and fun offerings they know and love from Mardi Gras but with new identities that pay tribute to the rich culture of Miami, a city that is so special to all of us,” said Ben Clement, senior vice president of new builds, refurbishment and product innovation. “Miami is a one-of-a-kind city with many different sides to it, so we tried to capture all of that in 820 Biscayne – from the tropical feel and original Art Deco designs that can still be found on Miami Beach today to the modern city look of Brickell – and of course, with a huge emphasis on the delicious flavors throughout.”

Guests can still expect to find their favorites in the zone like Rudi’s Seagrill, which was introduced on Mardi Gras, and Cucina del Capitano, which will be redesigned with a new look and feel that reflects the sleek and airy restaurants often found in Miami, as well.

Carnival Celebration will be the second Carnival ship to be powered by a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) propulsion system, part of Carnival Corporation’s green cruising platform, and will include an award-winning roller coaster at the top of the ship. Celebration will debut in November from the redesigned state-of-the-art Terminal F at PortMiami, the line’s third terminal at the port and its largest in South Florida. The terminal will be among the first to be shore-power ready in 2023.

Be Prepared to Catch Yourself Saying, "That's It?" With These New Technological Enhancements Making Embarkation Smoother and Quicker

Holland America Line Speeds Up Embarkation Process with mBark Facial Recognition and VeriFLY Vaccine Verification Program

Please note: some posts may contain affiliate links which means our team could earn money if you purchase products from our site

New technological enhancements make embarkation smoother and quicker on all cruise departures across the fleet

SEATTLE, March 17, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- Holland America Line is enhancing the preboarding guest experience and making embarkation easier by adding the use of mBark facial recognition and the VeriFLY vaccine verification program in all U.S., Canadian and European homeports.

mBark is a mobile system that enables guests to check in for their cruise in less than 10 seconds, while the VeriFLY digital wallet for COVID-19 credentials offers a proven solution for proof of vaccination and test results.

"Holland America Line continues to look for ways that make the cruising experience better for our guests as we navigate protocols and best practices for today's travelers," said Gus Antorcha, president of Holland America Line. "We recently completed testing with VeriFLY and mBark on a few sailings, and the most common comment from guests was, 'That's it?' because it's so fast and efficient."

With mBark facial recognition, guests who load their photo and all necessary pretravel information to Holland America Line's website prior to embarkation will be able to use the touchless system. Following a quick face scan, guests can move through the check-in process in about 10 seconds, significantly reducing embarkation time. SKO Systems, based in London, England, designed and implemented mBark for Holland America Line.

VeriFLY gives guests the option to upload the required information to the app, including proof of vaccination and test results, providing a way to go through the screening process prior to arrival at the terminal. Once registration is complete, guests simply need to show the VeriFLY QR code or "pass" (digital or printed) to the check-in agent. VeriFLY has a successful record of serving dozens of airlines, cruise lines, hotels and a variety of industries. The VeriFLY app is available for download at Google Play and the Apple App Store.

"Holland America Line is recognized globally for providing an outstanding travel experience, and so we are delighted to be able to partner with the cruise line to bring their guests the convenience and peace of mind that comes with VeriFLY," said Daon Chief Executive Officer Tom Grissen.

VeriFLY launched on Rotterdam in March and will now roll out to other ships in the fleet by the end of March and begin with the remaining ships as they return to cruising. mBark also will launch with ships as they return to service and will begin in other embarkation ports as the ships move to new cruising regions.

What I Learned About the Largest Ship In The World, Royal Caribbean’s Wonder of the Seas

I attended a Royal Caribbean press briefing on the Wonder of the Seas, here’s what I learned!

Royal Caribbean’s Wonder of the Seas is the fifth ship in the Oasis class, is the cruise line’s newest vessel, and has claimed the title of the biggest cruise ship in the world!

The Wonder of the Seas will be sailing for two months out of Fort Lauderdale and then debuting in Europe for the summer season and finally returning to Florida calling on her “home port”, Port Canaveral in November.

Here is what I learned about various aspects of this brand new cruise ship from the restaurants, entertainment, how venues changed, deployment itineraries, etc.

Mason Jar - A Brand New Experience

The Wonder of the Seas has a new restaurant debuting called The Mason Jar. Wondering what happened to the other southern style restaurant., PortSide BBQ, which is found on other Oasis-class ships? Well if you enjoy Portside BBQ, don’t fret, it isn’t going away from other ships!

The Mason Jar is a southern-style comfort food restaurant and bar. Designed by Royal Caribbean executives as a southern extension, with really great music!

The musicians are originally from California and are a country, Trio. I will be having brunch here later in the voyage. Stay tuned for my review!

  • Reservations are required; Brunch is 24.99 and Dinner is 39.99

  • Late night snacks are also available.

  • If you can’t secure a reservation, still stop by this brand new venue and enjoy a drink and the bar

A Royal Caribbean employee explained that the Mason Jar is going to be as different to Port Side BBQ as Chops is to 150 Central Park. (Chops and 150 Central Park are both steakhouses found on Royal Caribbean’s fleet.)

The Solarium

Originally, prior to the pandemic, the ship’s deployment schedule was set to have the Wonder debut in China.

Due to the weather and humid climate that you experience while cruising in that region of the world changes needed to be made to the design. The Solarium was built differently from her other sister ships on the Oasis class. These climatization changes were said to have become a new design favorite and we will likely see it on the Oasis VI (We do not know the name yet).

West Coast Operation

Q: When will we see an Oasis-class ship come to the west coast?

A: The hope is to continue to build out the west coast market.

  • Currently, the Navigator of the Seas is operating out of Los Angeles and guests are loving having this addition on the West Coast.

As described by RC employees, the hope is to get an Oasis-class to the pacific but it is challenging due to the ship’s size they don’t fit through Panama Canal. Would have to go around South America.

Galveston, TX- New Terminal will be able to support Oasis and Quantum Ultra Class. Construction is ongoing currently.

Oasis VI-  What we know about the next new Royal Caribbean Cruise ship!

·       will be even bigger than Wonder

·       will be LNG (Liquified Natural Gas) powered

Fun Facts & How Wonder of the Seas was Westernized

Wonder was originally going to be deployed for China. Adaptations were made to make the ships appealing for the Western market included:

·       The Mason Jar was originally going to be a hot pot restaurant.

·       The Vue bar- initially was going to be a massive cantilevered hot tub, Oasis VI is still in design phase and may see this.

·       Didn't have a Lime & Coconut Bar, she was retrofitted to include it.

·       Largest windjammer in the world.

·       Purpose-built bigger for the Asian market. But will continue to see an even largest Winderjammer on Oasis VI

·       Starbucks had to be retrofitted to be included.

·       Signage was a big task to change as well, (Take a look at the back of your Stateroom door, it still has some Mandarin!

How safe cruising is today. After an emotionally charged few years...

Families, and friends coming together thanks to the protocols from the healthy return to service. Guests do not have to wear masks although the crew is still wearing masks as a recommendation not a requirement from CDC.

Environmentally Friendly Vessels

Royal Caribbean is Environmentally focused in a number of ways that keep sustainability and ecosystems top of mind.

·       Every new ship becomes more and more efficient

·       Fuel usage vs Shore power. Ships have the ability to hook up to shore power so they aren’t burning fuel in ports of call

·        Limiting Food waste as much as possible- source locally when they can

·       Save the waves program- Encouraging guests to reuse towels if clean etc.

·       Oasis 6 will be the first LNG (Liquified Natural Gas) ship, this is the most eco-friendly burning of fuel for cruise ships to date.
