Carnival Cruise Line and Port of Seattle Welcome Carnival Luminosa as Ship Embarks Guests from U.S. for First Time

Carnival Cruise Line President Christine Duffy welcomed the first guests to board Carnival Luminosa from a U.S. port in Seattle today. The ship arrived at the Port of Seattle after a 23-day transpacific journey that began in Brisbane, Australia to begin a series of sailings to Alaska.

Carnival Luminosa is Carnival’s third ship sailing to Alaska this season and part of a deployment that will see 100,000 guests visit spectacular destinations that include Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan, as well as Victoria, B.C., and the cruising of Tracy Arm Fjord. Carnival has seen an extraordinary response for its upcoming Alaska cruises, so to welcome guests and help kick off the season, Duffy held a special event at the Port of Seattle’s Pier 91 cruise terminal.

“Not only is Carnival Luminosa completing our Alaska deployment for this season, which was so successful last year after we expanded it to three ships that we decided to bring her all the way from Australia to do it again, but she’s also front and center in another important effort for us as well,” Duffy said. “Work starts today on getting Carnival Luminosa shore power ready so she can hook up to the port when she’s docked here in Seattle. Shore power is one of our overall sustainability initiatives and Carnival Luminosa is now part of that important investment in our future.”

Carnival expects the ship will be ready to plug in and operate on electric power while at the port of Seattle by early June. Once the work is complete, Carnival Luminosa will join her sister ships also deployed to Alaska this season that are already utilizing shore power – Carnival Spirit, which is also homeporting in Seattle, and Carnival Miracle, homeporting in San Francisco.

Carnival Luminosa is one of Carnival’s latest additions to the fleet, having joined the Carnival fleet in November of 2022 from a Carnival Corporation sister line, the ship underwent a series of refurbishments and began homeporting in Brisbane, Australia. Now, after the first-time cruising through U.S. waters, the ship is embarking guests in Seattle who will be some of the first from America to see and experience it. Retaining much of its beautiful European styling, the ship boasts a unique aesthetic and some exclusive features, such as a Cloud 9 Spa spanning two decks with one of the fleet’s most expansive thermal areas. Much like her sisters, the ship also features many guest-favorite Carnival venues, including Alchemy BarFahrenheit 555 Steakhouse and RedFrog Rum BarPiano Bar 88 and The Punchliner Comedy Club.

Next year, between two transpacific cruises that feature visits to Japan and Hawaii, Carnival Luminosa will again join Carnival Spirit to homeport in Seattle, operating seven-, eight- and 14-day sailings, and Carnival Miracle will return to San Francisco , where 10- and 11-day cruises are available. CARNIVAL CRUISE LINE GETS READY FOR BUSY ALASKA SEASON

Carnival Luminosa to Sail from U.S. for First Time, Joining Three-Ship Deployment

MIAMI, April 6, 2023 – Building on the success of its 2022 Alaska season, Carnival Cruise Line is gearing up to launch another three-ship deployment that will sail 49 Alaskan cruises this year. This season, Carnival is introducing new experiences to its popular array of shore excursions and preparing to welcome one of its newest additions to the fleet, Carnival Luminosa, into U.S. waters for the first time.

Carnival Miracle will kick off Carnival’s Alaska season on April 23, 2023, from Long Beach, Calif. for a 14-day journey and will then operate from her seasonal homeport of San Francisco, Calif. with 10-day cruises that feature visits to Prince Rupert, B.C., a new destination this season. In Seattle, Wash., Carnival Spirit’s first departure is set for May 2, 2023, and then Carnival Luminosa joins to complete the season’s start on May 4, 2023. Carnival will operate six-, seven- and eight-day sailings from the Port of Seattle. Destinations during these voyages include the popular ports of Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan, as well as Victoria, B.C., and cruising Tracy Arm Fjord.

Ahead of her arrival in Seattle, Carnival Luminosa will take guests on a 23-day Carnival Journeys cruise from Brisbane, Australia, where she has been homeporting since joining the fleet in November 2022. Guests sailing on Carnival Luminosa from Seattle will experience many unique features the ship brings to the Carnival fleet, such as a Cloud 9 Spa spanning two decks with one of the fleet’s most expansive thermal areas. After joining from sister-brand Costa Cruises last year, the ship underwent several enhancements. Like her sisters Carnival Spirit and Carnival Miracle, the ship also features a sky dome over the pool deck, allowing the area to be enjoyed no matter the weather.

“I can’t wait to welcome our guests on board our stunning Carnival Luminosa, as she joins her beautiful sisters, Carnival Spirit and Carnival Miracle, for this year’s Alaska season. There’s no better way to see the awe-inspiring natural wonder of Alaska than by cruise ship, and we anticipate making that happen for more than 100,000 guests this year,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. “This season’s start is a good reminder that it’s not too early to plan for next year.”

Carnival has seen an extraordinary response for the upcoming season, and Alaskan sailings for next year are currently open for sale as well. In 2024, in between two spectacular transpacific cruises that feature visits to Japan and Hawaii, Carnival Luminosa will again join Carnival Spirit to homeport in Seattle, operating seven-, eight- and 14-day sailings, and Carnival Miracle will return to San Francisco, Calif., where 10- and 11-day cruises are available. The three ships will sail 53 cruises during the 2024 season, which will make it Carnival’s largest-ever Alaska deployment. To see Alaska cruises currently open for sale, visit Carnival.com.

Pack a Sense of Adventure and Be Immersed in Alaska’s Beauty
Each destination across every Alaskan itinerary offers several opportunities for guests to experience breathtaking scenery, rich culture, and deep history found on shore. From whale watching in Juneau to ziplining in Skagway, Carnival curates the best local experiences so guests can easily choose the perfect excursion. This season, Carnival is introducing two new excursions for Carnival Miracle cruises visiting Prince Rupert, B.C., which include:

  • Khutzeymatten Grizzly Bear Expedition: Guests will board a 72-foot catamaran designed for wildlife viewing for a full-day adventure through towering cliffs, dense forests and a thriving estuary ecosystem. They will gently glide through Canada’s only grizzly bear sanctuary, which is home to more than 50 grizzly bears, for an excellent chance at sightings.

  • Exchamsiks Exploration: Guests will experience the beauty of British Columbia's temperate rainforest and bountiful rivers by jet boat as well as on foot and enjoy a meal of fresh wild local salmon cooked over a campfire and served beneath 4,000-foot cliffs.

The new excursions join a wide range of offerings guests enjoy while visiting popular Alaskan ports, including:

  • Juneau: Sailing on an Alaskan-built, high-speed expedition vessel, the Mendenhall Glacier and Wildlife Quest offers an incomparable opportunity to see humpback whales, orcas, sea lions, porpoises, seals, eagles and a guided tour through the famous Mendenhall Glacier.

  • Skagway: The Ultimate Yukon and White Pass Railroad Adventure takes guests aboard a motor coach to marvel at the picturesque Yukon River, its adjoining chain of lakes and the rustic town of Caribou as they hear tales of the Klondike Gold Rush narrated by their guide.

  • Ketchikan: See – and taste – much of what makes Alaska unique at the Great Alaskan Lumberjack Show, Crab Feast and Drinks, which offers guests a chance to watch Alaskan lumberjacks compete. A sightseeing tour and a Dungeness crab dinner follows while guests enjoy the dramatic mountain, forest and coastal scenery surrounding them.

Bring More Fun to The Last Frontier and Join Special Activities for Kids and Families
Carnival cruises to Alaska feature Alaska-specific programming geared toward children and families. From the Great Alaskan Deck Party to a digital scavenger hunt that helps guests of all ages collect snapshots of the best sights along their cruise, Carnival offers something for all age groups designed to enhance connection and engagement with the momentous experience of an Alaskan sailing. Some of the fun activities and memorable learning opportunities created specifically for voyages to Alaska include:

  • Wildlife, Nature and Culture: Local naturalists visit Camp Ocean to give an overview of Alaskan wildlife. In Club O2 and Circle C, teens will learn how best to photograph beautiful Alaskan scenery and have their questions about native wildlife answered by experts. Additionally, kids and teens can learn to square dance and express their creative side with crafts.

  • Family Ice Fishing Challenge: Everyone in the family can imagine life as an ice fisher – but instead of trout, each team fishes for points in a game that’s fun for all ages.

  • Family Lumberjack Challenge: Guests can join a fun competition to find out who in their family might make the best lumberjack.

Each of the three ships deployed to Alaska this season carry approximately 2,200 guests and feature many guest-favorite Carnival venues, including Alchemy Bar, Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse and RedFrog Rum Bar. Guests will also enjoy entertainment offerings that include Playlist Productions, Piano Bar 88 and The Punchliner Comedy Club.

CARNIVAL LUMINOSA ARRIVES IN AUSTRALIA

First Carnival Ship to be Homeported in Brisbane
Kicks Off Line’s Period of Growth

MIAMI, Oct. 31, 2022 – Carnival Luminosa officially arrived in Queensland, Australia, yesterday, marking the first ship from the fleet to be homeported in Brisbane.

Carnival Luminosa, which docked at the Brisbane International Cruise Terminal with a special “We Love Queensland” message to locals, will set sail on her first cruise on Nov. 6 and operate 28 sailings through April 13, 2023, visiting 60 ports of call across Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific including Airlie Beach and The Great Barrier Reef. These sailings will support Carnival Australia’s anticipated $165 million contribution to the Queensland economy this year.

Including Luminosa, Carnival is adding five beautiful new ships to its fleet over the next two years in a period of growth. Next in the lineup of exciting additions is the delivery of not one but two Excel-class ships – Carnival Celebration to Miami in late November and Carnival Jubilee to Galveston, Texas, next year.

As part of this growth plan, Carnival will also introduce a new concept, “Carnival Fun Italian Style” with two additional ships from sister brand Costa Cruises – starting with Carnival Venezia joining next spring and sailing year-round from New York City and Carnival Firenze in 2024 sailing from Long Beach and adding to Carnival’s strong presence on the West Coast.

“Carnival Luminosa is a testament to our ongoing commitment to Australia, and the start of a period of growth unlike any other in Carnival’s 50-year history,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. “Having a Brisbane-based ship has been a goal of ours for quite some time, so we are so happy that they are the first market globally to experience the big, bright, fun that this ship has to offer and so excited to give our guests more Carnival ships and itinerary options to sail over the next two years.”

Carnival Luminosa joined the fleet on Sept. 8 and underwent enhancements over the last two months including the addition of Carnival’s signature red, white and blue hull livery as well as guest favorites from other Carnival ships. Following her time in Brisbane, Carnival Luminosa will reposition for seasonal service from Seattle to Alaska next May, before returning to Queensland later in the year.

When Carnival Cruise Line guests start sailing on Carnival Luminosa, they will find an array of special features that make the ship unique to the fleet.

Only found on Carnival Luminosa and serving as the centerpiece of the 10-deck-high atrium is a particularly monumental bronze sculpture titled “Reclining Woman 2004” that was specially commissioned for this ship from world-renowned Colombian artist Fernando Botero. The multi-million-dollar sculpture, more than 11 feet in length and weighing nearly one ton, depicts a female figure, daydreaming in a reclining position with a subtle and ironic facial expression. She serves as a good luck charm to the ship, her crew and guests.

Other unique features include a two-deck-high sliding sky dome over the ship’s large pool deck, allowing the area to be used in all types of weather; a collection of 120 Murano glass light fixtures and chandeliers; and a sunset deck bar perfect for enjoying a drink in an enchanting atmosphere. The ship will also feature one of the fleet’s largest spas spanning across two decks with one of the most expansive thermal areas, as well as a large casino with beautiful sea views, nearly 200 new slot machines catering to all tastes, a variety of table games and a nearby arcade with games for guests of all ages to enjoy.

“While Carnival Luminosa will feel like a Carnival ship through and through with our signature service and offerings, the ship will offer her own unique features that our guests are going to love,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line.

Carnival Luminosa will serve as the first Carnival ship to be homeported in Brisbane, Australia with a variety of itineraries beginning on Nov. 6, 2022 and running through April 13, 2023. The ship will then reposition for seasonal service from Seattle to Alaska next May, including some first-time-for-Carnival destinations.
