Spotted Cruise Ship Taxi! Royal Caribbean Brilliance of the Seas
cruise ships docked

Brilliance of the Seas & Freedom of the Seas

Spotted the Brilliance of the Seas is getting ready to soon resume service and help transport crew members!

Brilliance of the Seas docked in Perfect Day Coco Cay

On Tuesday, October 26, Royal Caribbean’s Brilliance of the Seas joined the Freedom of the Seas at the cruise line’s private destination Perfect Day Coco Cay. No revenue passengers were on the vessel as it has not yet resumed service since the pause in operation due to the global cruise shutdown.

Crew members preparing to onboard additional crew

Crew members waiting to board the Brilliance of the Seas

Many crew members could be seen transferred off of the Freedom and boarded onto the Brilliance as that ship will either be their “taxi” to their next ship for their contract or stay on the Brilliance.

I spoke with a crew member on the first day of our cruise, in Adventure Ocean and she mentioned that she would be getting off the ship and transferred back to the Adventure of the Seas, which has been in dry dock in Europe for the past few months.

It always surprises me how light others can pack! Especially when crew members’ contracts are often 6 months long! One large suitcase for all of their belongings! I guess uniforms can help cut down on the clothes.

Starboard Side of Brilliance of the Seas docked

Many crew members were seen out on the balcony cabins, it is likely that they are in quarantine, after recently getting on the ship to assure that they are healthy before starting work.

Click through the slideshow to see additional photos of the Brilliance of the Seas docked in Perfect Day Coco Cay!

The Brillance of the Seas will start sailing 4 & 5-night cruises from Port Tampa Bay starting in early Decemeber.

Royal Caribbean Freedom of the Seas LIVE Blog Embarkation Day

It’s Cruise Day

All Aboard the Royal Caribbean Freedom of the Seas! A Four night cruise headed to the Bahamas! Visiting ports of call: Perfect Day at Coco Cay, and Nassau.

Staying Caffeinated for the road trip!

We started our morning in our home in Orlando. This past summer we moved to Florida and we are still getting used to living with a driving distance to 4 cruise ports! The drive was a breeze, did leave early enough to take our time and not feel rushed to arrive at Port Miami for our 1:30 p.m. check-in time.

On the road again!

Paying to park at Port Miami in the Royal Caribbean terminal was $25 a day. A bit pricer than when we paid for terminal parking in Port Canaveral, but worth the convenience, we were ready to get on the ship.

Embarkation & Check-In

After leaving our checked bags with the porters in the terminal we made our way into the cruise terminal. Keeping your proof of testing, vaccine card, and passport all close by is handy, you will need all multiple times, through this process.

We did do the online check-in before the cruise through Royal Caribbean’s app. This allowed us to fill out the health questionnaire and take our pictures and receive a boarding time to arrive at the cruise terminal. (Pro tip if you don’t want to take your picture while doing the check-in through the app, let’s say you don’t have your face on and are still in your pajamas, alternatively you can do the check-in through on your computer and upload a photo instead. Uploading a photo isn’t a feature available on the app.)

Once we reach the check-in counter they verified our documents again and wanted to take my photo again. This hasn’t ever happened to me where they didn’t like the photo I took on my own. But since my hair was down for the photo that I took, and during embarkation, my hair was up this was the explanation I was given. Go figure!

Security was a breeze and it was time to get on the ship! As traditional holds true stepping off the gangway onto the ship, I have to jump to help kick-start the cruise! Are you superstitious? Not saying, I am but I do enjoy a fun tradition!

Luckily, our stateroom was ready, a benefit of boarding a bit later in the day! This meant we could drop off our heavy camera equipment backpacks, and go explore the ship without being weighed down!

1st meal onboard

Time for lunch on the pool deck! El Loco Fresh is located on deck 11 and this is my favorite quick-service restaurant on any Royal Caribbean ship! There wasn’t a long line to grab a bite which is always a plus! The crew will serve you as you direct them to what of the offering of rice beans, chicken or steak, prebuilt burritos, and chicken or cheese quesadillas.

They have a topping bar with extra fixings and an array of hot sauces if you want to give it an extra kick!

El Loco Fresh is little hands approved!

Sailaway

Due to safety protocols there isn’t a full blown sail away party. But there was live music playing on the pool deck around 4p.m. We had decided to go live on YouTube to show off the explore the cruise ship together! Interesting, there were a few members of the community who will be sailing on the Freedom very soon and even a couple who just got off today! If you have specific questions you want me to cover for your upcoming trip let me know!

After the 1hr livestream it was time for dinner! You can watch the replay here! We opted for the early 5:30 seating as this works a bit better for our family when traveling with our daughter. Keeping kids on their schedule while traveling can be tough but at least if they stay well fed we can help eliminate some meltdowns 😉

Main Dining Room

We were seated on deck four in the early dining time and had a nice table for the 3 of us close to a window. It was nice to see the sights as we started to pull out of the dock and sail out of Port Miami.

The service and food came quickly and was tasty. It was a bit of expedited service since we were some of the first to sit down and the dining room from what we could see was socially distant but very empty.

We were told during check-in the sailing was like and only at 1400 pax, which is approx. 31%. We could feel the low guest count in the dining room.

Entertainment

Turns out there are lots of spots great for peak-a-boo!

The "Majority Rules” game show took place in the lounge which was a vaccinated area only. Since our daughter was with us and under 2 were didn’t stay for the show. You can see on the daily planner activities that are marked with “V” for vaccinated guests only allow in that area, and guests are allowed to take their masks off in these indoor spaces. And areas marked with “E” are for everyone.

On to explore more of the ship and discover other happenings throughout.

We stumbled upon movies under the stars on the pool deck. The weather was perfect and calm seas for this. The new Tom and Jerry movie was playing! Rafael had mentioned that he couldn’t even feel that we were moving at all.

Looking onto the Royal Promenade Deck 5 from Deck 6.

Subscribers Jackie and Lisa from Tennessee

We love meeting members of the community! While strolling the promenade we met subscribers Jackie and Lisa from Tenessee!

Stay tuned for our Day 2 trip update from Perfect Day Coco Cay! Want real time updates follow along on Instagram for IG stories throughout the day!

New "Magic Meets the Sea" Disney Cruise Line Float Debuts in 2021 Thanksgiving Day Parade

CARNIVAL CRUISE LINE CHRISTENS MARDI GRAS

IN FIRST NAMING CEREMONY IN THE U.S. SINCE INDUSTRY RESTART

Carnival’s Chief Fun Officer Shaquille O’Neal and Ship Godmother Miss Universe, Dominican Republic, Kimberly Jimenez Help Usher in the “Universe of Fun”

PORT CANAVERAL, Oct. 23, 2021 – Carnival Cruise Line today christened Mardi Gras at Port Canaveral, Fla. at a “Universe of Fun” celebration befitting of the world’s most fun cruise ship, in the first ship naming ceremony held in the U.S. since the cruise industry’s restart this summer.

Carnival’s Chief Fun Officer Shaquille O’Neal attended the festivities and cut the ribbon of his first Big Chicken restaurant at sea that debuted on Mardi Gras when she began cruise operations on July 31.

Miss Universe, Dominican Republic, Kimberly Jimenez served as the ship’s Godmother and officially named the ship and was joined by Miss Universe, Andrea Meza and Miss USA, Asya Branch who sang the national anthem. The event featured a “World of Nations” flag procession to highlight the diversity of the 120 nationalities of Carnival crew members, and, of course, a Mardi Gras parade with a Second Line Band.

“Today’s naming ceremony of our flagship Mardi Gras, the first in the industry since our restart of operations, signifies excitement and optimism as we look to bring our entire fleet back into guest service by spring 2022,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line.  “This ship has been amazing guests during her pre-inaugural season and the celebration today with our Chief Fun Officer Shaq, our Godmother Kimberly, and so many special guests, was extremely gratifying and emotional.”

Following remarks by Duffy and Carnival Corporation President and CEO Arnold Donald, Carnival friends and partners Romero Britto, Emeril Lagasse, Kathie Lee Gifford, Vanna White and Guy Fieri provided their congratulations on the ship’s naming and helped bring the champagne bottle to the ship.

Godmother Jimenez blessed the ship in both English and her native Spanish and activated the traditional champagne bottle break, officially naming the ship. In a celebration of the ship’s name, a special Mardi Gras parade with Duffy, Donald and O’Neal leading it, capped off the festivities.

Mardi Gras is the first cruise ship in the Americas to be powered by eco-friendly Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and the first to feature a roller coaster.  The 180,000-ton ship boasts six distinct themed zones with a variety of food, beverage and entertainment options, including dining venues from Lagasse, Fieri, O’Neal and Rudi Sodamin. Mardi Gras sails weekly from Port Canaveral on alternating Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises.

AIDAcosma starts River Ems Conveyance

Papenburg, October 21, 2021 –

AIDAcosma will leave Papenburg in the night from Friday to Saturday and will be transferred on the Ems to Eemshaven (NL). The 115th cruise ship of the MEYER Group will start the maneuver shortly after midnight with the passage of the Papenburg dock lock.

During the Ems transfer and the subsequent technical and nautical sea trials on the North Sea, around 1400 people will be on board - around 99 percent have a full Covid-19 vaccination, with the remainder recovered and/or tested.

"This means we have reached a milestone in health protection and can concentrate on completing the ship despite the continuing restrictions due to the pandemic," says Jochen Busch, project manager at MEYER WERFT.”

AIDAcosma is already MEYER WERFT's third cruise ship equipped with the low-emission LNG propulsion system. In addition to a reduction of CO2 emissions, nitrogen oxides and particulate matter are almost completely avoided - sulfur oxides are completely eliminated. Currently, all ships in MEYER WERFT's order book are equipped with this propulsion system, while intensive work is already underway on new technologies such as fuel cells and synthetic fuels.

AIDAcosma will again be transferred to the Ems river backwards with the support of two tugs. This type of passage has proven its worth due to its better maneuverability.

The following schedule applies for the Ems passage, which may be postponed at short notice according to weather and tidal conditions:

Saturday, October 23, 2021

approx. 00:00 Ship in waiting position (Papenburg)

approx. 01:00 passing the dock lock (Papenburg)

approx. 05:45 passing the Friesenbrücke (Weener)

approx. 09:00 Passage of the Jann Berghaus Bridge (Leer)

approx. 14:30 Passage of the Emssperrwerk (Gandersum)

ca. 16:30 h ship turn at height Emden

All information is subject to wind and weather conditions, water levels and therefore without guarantee. Time shifts are possible at short notice!

Holland America Line's Rotterdam Departs on Maiden Voyage from Amsterdam to Florida for Inaugural Caribbean Season

Holland America Line's Rotterdam Departs on Maiden Voyage from Amsterdam to Florida for Inaugural Caribbean Season

Rotterdam departs today on maiden voyage! The ship will cross the Atlantic Ocean from Amsterdam to Ft. Lauderdale and then spend its inaugural season in the Caribbean.

SEATTLE, Oct. 20, 2021 /PRNewswire/ -- Holland America Line's Rotterdam departed today on its highly anticipated 14-day maiden voyage from Amsterdam, the Netherlands, to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The cruise line celebrated the occasion with fanfare, cheering crew and a ribbon cutting to welcome guests on board the transatlantic cruise.

The 2,668-guest Rotterdam was delivered in July 2021 and is the third in the Pinnacle Class series for Holland America Line. Last week the ship arrived at its namesake city of Rotterdam, the Netherlands, where it was announced that Her Royal Highness Princess Margriet of the Netherlands will be the ships godmother when it is officially named in the spring.

"Rotterdam's maiden voyage has been highly anticipated for months by our guests and team members eager to welcome them aboard," said Gus Antorcha, president of Holland America Line. "Rotterdam is a beautiful ship and the fourth in our fleet to begin cruising this year.  We are excited to bring her to Florida and the Caribbean soon on her first sailing."

Following the transatlantic crossing, Rotterdam will spend from November through April on its inaugural Caribbean Season, with all sailings roundtrip from Fort Lauderdale. The cruises range from six to 11 days and span the entire region on southern, eastern, western and tropical itineraries. Guests looking for a longer getaway can embark on a Collectors' Voyage — combined back-to-back itineraries that offer an in-depth exploration covering more than one area.

Every Caribbean cruise includes a call at Half Moon Cay, Holland America Line's award-winning private Bahamian island. This quaint sanctuary has evolved into a playground for cruise guests and features the finest beaches; two-story villas and private cabanas; delicious dining venues like Lobster Shack; and a variety of fun-filled tours for nature lovers, adventurous travelers and explorers.

Sailing from the Port of Los Angeles on a 15-day Panama Canal Cruise, Emerald Princess returns to service and welcomes first guests back onboard.

About Rotterdam
Rotterdam has the highly successful amenities and innovations introduced with her sister ships, including the 270-degree surround screen World Stage, Rudi's Sel de Mer restaurant and Grand Dutch Café. The ship introduces the Half Moon Bar, an immersive experience looking at the history of Holland America Line and cruising through the lens of a cocktail.

Delivering the best of everything, Rotterdam celebrates live music with a collection of world-class performances each night — from Lincoln Center Stage and B.B. King's Blues Club to Rolling Stone Rock Room and Billboard Onboard.

Throughout the ship, Rotterdam showcases Holland America Line hallmarks that drive one of the highest repeat rates in the industry: exquisite cuisine guided by eight of the world's leading chefs; gracious, award-winning service; a museum-quality art collection valued at more than $4 million; and superbly appointed staterooms and suites, including family and single accommodations.

Rotterdam is the seventh ship to bear the name for Holland America Line.

There are also less-traveled places to explore, such as Greece’s Olympia, once a sanctuary site to honor Zeus and the location of the first Olympic games. The journey only continues to even more destinations known for their storied history — like Split, Croatia, and Cannes and Provence in France.

  • Capitals of Culture
    July 10 - Sept. 10, 2024 – Three continents, 40 destinations
The final leg of the Ultimate World Cruise is an immersive, cultural experience that begins in the Mediterranean and heads north. MIAMI (October 14, 2021) – Exciting news today, as Celebrity Cruises President and CEO Lisa Lutoff-Perlo announced Captain Kate McCue, the first American female cruise ship captain, will take the helm of Celebrity Beyond, the company’s third ship in its industry-transforming Edge Series debuting in spring 2022.

The dynamic and decorated captain will usher in a new era for the new-luxury brand, sailing a ship brought to life by a dream team of modern lifestyle icons including multi-award-winning British designer Kelly Hoppen CBE; celebrated American designer Nate Berkus; the culinary gifts of Michelin-starred chef and restaurateur Daniel Boulud; and featuring wellness experiences and products from goop CEO and founder Gwyneth Paltrow, the brand’s Well-Being Advisor.

For Captain Kate, the seed to be a captain was planted following a cruise the then-12-year-old McCue took with her family. She told her father that she wanted to be a cruise director when she grew up. His advice to her was that she could do anything she wanted, including captaining the ship.

Since that time Captain Kate has been a pioneer and trailblazer, breaking the gender barrier in 2015 when Lutoff-Perlo named her to be the first -- and still only -- American female to captain a major cruise ship - Celebrity Summit. She moved to Celebrity Equinox before being appointed to helm the exquisite Celebrity Edge® in September 2019. On March 8, 2020, McCue further cemented her place in the history books when she captained the history-making, barrier-breaking sailing on Celebrity Edge that comprised a cruise ship’s first-ever all-female bridge and officer team.

Captain Kate also led the Celebrity fleet – and the industry – back into operation when, on June 26, 2021, Celebrity Edge became the first cruise ship to sail with guests from a U.S. port in more than a year due to the global coronavirus pandemic.

“This is a day that I’ve been waiting for since we made the first cut of steel on our beautiful Celebrity Beyond. Captain Kate has transcended what it means to be a captain as a voice and example of inclusivity, diversity, and change,” said Lutoff-Perlo.  “She constantly thinks about how she can go above and beyond, mirroring the exceptional design and imagination of the ship she will captain. I’m beyond excited to see her take our guests to locations that will open their eyes to the beauty of the world around them and experience travel on a new-luxury ship without comparison.”

Since taking on the mantle of captain, McCue has inspired others to shoot for the stars and encouraged people from all walks of life to follow their dreams. The endearing and charismatic McCue has also become a social media celebrity, amassing nearly 3.5 million followers across TikTok, Instagram and YouTube by humanizing the profile of captain and sharing behind the scenes looks at seafaring life.

“To be the ‘take out’ captain for a new vessel is an honor for any captain and it is an absolute dream  come true for me. I always say that if you see it, you can be it and I hope that Celebrity Beyond sails as an inspiration for all to see past convention in pursuit of any goal in life,“ said Captain Kate McCue. “I’m forever grateful to Lisa for entrusting this labor of love to me to captain. The thoughtfulness and imagination she put into this ship is only matched by her forward thinking to move the industry beyond what it is now and see what it should be.”

Celebrity Beyond will not only hold the title of the largest ship in the fleet, but the distinction as the brand’s most luxurious vessel.

Celebrity Beyond stands at 17 decks high and 21 meters longer than her innovative predecessors Celebrity Edge (2018) and Celebrity Apex (2020). Every element of Celebrity Beyond’s look and feel has been carefully curated with newly imagined spaces and expanded versions of the brand’s popular signature spaces, including:

  • The Retreat, an exclusive area for suite guests, now featuring a two-story sundeck

  • Transformational accommodations, from modern two-story villas with plunge pools to staterooms with infinite verandas, blurring the boundaries between indoor and outdoor living

  • An expanded Rooftop Garden and stunning resort deck featuring cantilevered float pools

  • A stunning multi-level, multi-terraced Sunset Bar that defines the ship’s aft

  • A first-ever Daniel Boulud fine-dining restaurant at sea called Le Voyage

  • A redesigned Grand Plaza spanning three decks and creating an airiness never-before experienced on a cruise ship

  • And, the Magic Carpet®, an engineering feat soaring cantilevered above the sea, offering guests uninterrupted vistas while sipping cocktails or having dinner.

Celebrity Beyond’s maiden voyage will depart on April 27, 2022, from Southampton, England, for a 10-night Western Europe cruise visiting Bordeaux, France; Lisbon, Portugal; and Seville, Malaga, Palma de Mallorca and Barcelona, Spain.

She will then offer a variety of Mediterranean journeys including nine-night Italian Riviera and France itineraries and 10-night Greek Isles itineraries through early October, when she then heads to the Caribbean. Voyages are on sale now. For more information on all Celebrity Beyond inaugural 2022-2023 season sailings, visit https://www.celebritycruises.com/cruise-ships/celebrity-beyond.

Keeping with Tradition Holland America Names Godmother of it's Newest Ship

Sailing from the Port of Los Angeles on a 15-day Panama Canal Cruise, Emerald Princess returns to service and welcomes first guests back onboard.

Holland America Line Names Her Royal Highness Princess Margriet of the Netherlands Godmother of Rotterdam

Rotterdam marks the 13th ship for the cruise line to be named by a Dutch Royal

SEATTLE, Oct. 15, 2021 /PRNewswire/ -- Holland America Line announced today that when Rotterdam is named next spring, Her Royal Highness Princess Margriet of the Netherlands will be the ship's godmother, carrying on a tradition that began in the 1920s.

Holland America Line's connection to The House of Orange goes back nearly a century to Prince Hendrik launching Statendam III in 1929. Since then, members of the Dutch Royal Family have launched 11 more Holland America Line vessels throughout the years, including Her Royal Highness Princess Margriet who named Prinsendam (1972), Nieuw Amsterdam III (1983), Rotterdam VI (1997) and Oosterdam (2003).

"We are deeply grateful that Her Royal Highness Princess Margriet will once again act as godmother to a Holland America Line ship, carrying on a long tradition with the Royal Family that continues to honor our Dutch roots," said Gus Antorcha, president of Holland America Line. "Rotterdam will be named in Rotterdam next year, celebrating its namesake city and our historic connection with the Netherlands. We look forward to commemorating the occasion where it all started for Holland America Line."

Additional members of the Dutch Royal Family who are godmothers include Queen Máxima, who named Koningsdam in 2016 and Nieuw Amsterdam in 2010. Then-Queen Beatrix served as Eurodam's godmother in 2008. Rotterdam V was launched in 1958 by Queen Juliana. Then-Princess Beatrix named Statendam IV in 1957 and Prinses Margriet in 1960. Nieuw Amsterdam II was launched by Queen Wilhelmina in 1937.

Rotterdam's maiden cruise departs Oct. 20, 2021, from Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and embarks on a 14-day transatlantic journey to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. During its inaugural Caribbean season from November to April, Rotterdam will sail a variety of five- to 11-day itineraries that span the southern, western, eastern and tropical regions, all roundtrip from Fort Lauderdale. In mid-April, the ship makes a 14-day Atlantic Ocean crossing back to Europe to spend the summer in Norway, the Baltic, British Isles and Iceland, all sailing roundtrip from Amsterdam.

Rotterdam was delivered by the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy July 30, 2021. The date for naming the ship in Rotterdam will be announced in the coming months.

Windstar Cruises Takes Delivery of Star Pride in Palermo, Italy

Pride is the third and final all-suite Star Plus Class yacht to emerge from a multi-year, $250 million renovation project

PALERMO, ITALY, October 13, 2021 – U.S. headquartered Windstar Cruises has taken delivery of its all-suite Star Plus Class Star Pride today at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Palermo, Sicily, Italy. The yacht is the third and final of the line’s Star Plus Class yachts to be stretched and transformed over a multi-year, $250 million project that is considered to be the most complex and comprehensive renovation project ever undertaken in small ship cruising.

“We are thrilled to have all three of our yachts completely reimagined, from the new, more environmentally-friendly engines to the gorgeous new restaurant spaces, spacious suites, and romantic spas,” said Windstar President Christopher Prelog. “We couldn’t be happier with the results. Our passengers who are already sailing with us on these transformed yachts are raving, giving us higher customer experience scores than we’ve ever received in our company’s history.”

Star Pride will remain in Italy until the yacht resumes guest operations in April in the Mediterranean. Sister yacht Star Breeze begins sailing in Tahiti next week, while Star Legend is completing a short season in the Mediterranean before sailing to the Caribbean in November.

windstar ship schedule.jpg

All three yachts increased in maximum capacity from 212 guests to 312 and now provide more of what Windstar’s customers want, like additional dining experiences (one is an outdoor barbecue concept with grilling guru Steven Raichlen and the other a Spanish small plates restaurant from Anthony Sasso, one of the youngest chefs to be recognized by the Michelin Guide), a true spa and fitness center, an elegant infinity pool, and more outdoor deck areas. These three all-suite yachts, together with Windstar’s three classic sailing yachts, remain small enough to continue to visit the special small ports and waterways of the world.

In addition, due to the pandemic, Star Pride and all of Windstar’s yachts received renovations to update HVAC systems, adding new hospital grade high-efficiency particulate (HEPA) filters along with a UV-C air zapping process (ultraviolet germicidal irradiation) to clean the air on board.

Clothing Optional Comes Back to Cruise Ships!

Going Topless is making a comeback!

corey-o-brien-Sz_lxG1ecmc-unsplash.jpg

Virgin Voyages said they were going to shake things up and make a splash upon entry into the cruise space and here’s one way they are doing it!

The Majority of Cruise Lines have rules in place against topless sunbathing.

Virgin Voyages logo

“Most major cruise lines that cater to North Americans do not permit topless sunbathing onboard their ships. Carnival has gotten rid of its special sun decks, and Norwegian states clearly in its Guest Conduct Policy that "topless sunbathing is not permitted." Royal Caribbean and Celebrity are a bit more vague, claiming their policies vary by cruise ship, itinerary and sailing date. Cunard stipulates that "should you wish to sunbathe topless, this be done on the privacy of your own balcony." Source

Virgin Voyages flagship, Scarlet Lady now welcomes guests to go topless if they choose to do so at “The Perch”.

Due to the lack of signage guests aboard the MerMaiden Voyage ask for clarification through Virgin’s text messaging service (through the app) to Sailor Services.

Three hours later Sailor services responded that this was in fact permitted and allowed on the adults-only cruise line even though there is no signage permitting it.

Perhaps we will see signage later added to avoid confusion.

If you are ready to sunbathe without any tan lines you are welcomed to abandoned your top altogether on the newest cruise line currently sailing from North America!

Ship Builder Shows Us What the Future of Cruise Ships Could Look Like
20210928_154911 (1).jpg

Meyer Werft shows us what’s possible

The varying ocean and river cruise ship models were on display for the first time ever at Seatrade Cruise Global, September 2021. Although no cruise lines have any ship models like these 3 on schedule to be built, the purpose is to show us what is possible!

River cruise concept of the future

Study of what river cruise ships could look like in the near future.

The concept ship has a completely new and fresh exterior design that draws inspiration from the best designer there is: nature.

The ship's most striking design feature is a lightweight exoskeleton on the sundeck that can be used as a canopy, a frame for solar panels, a structure for exterior lighting, etc.

The exoskeleton can be realized on a large scale using 3D printing, giving architects and designers a new kind of freedom in developing spectacular designs.

At the rear of the ship is a pool area with an infinity pool

Near the bow is a special feature not previously seen on river cruise ships: a loft cabin area directly connected to the courtyard area. The courtyard and loft balcony areas on both sides of the ship offer guests a closer connection to the water and are a perfect place for sightseeing and socializing.

The ship features 18 loft cabins that offer a unique experience for river cruising: Each cabin can be designed with different themes using state-of-the-art AV technology, allowing guests to choose a different theme for each day of the cruise if they wish.

Design as a trimaran to generate as much space as possible on the boat deck. Such a ship will be found less in the harbor, but rather only in front of the harbor / at anchor, so the width does not matter.

Our basic approach was that you can no longer scale up the ships at will without changing something fundamental in the concept. In other words, at some point I can no longer simply make the theater larger, I then need something else or, for example, two theaters.

At the same time, it is important to decentralize the people on board, so that the decentralized public areas have emerged. That was also the approach for the PeopleMover, because you can no longer work with normal staircases due to the sheer size.

The distribution and connection of the decentralized public areas was modeled and optimized, for example, with a slime mold experiment.

Overall concept: The ship as a destination

- Transition of the topics

- Hidden spaces/exploration

- Neighborhood/District

- Decentralized Public Areas

- Fast travel between Publics (People Mover)

- Centralized galley

The task was to develop a ship in which all fire zones would be the same length, all compartments the same size, and the entire technical layout of the ship would be modular and decentralized. This would give customers the opportunity to flexibly adjust the size of the ship: Fire zones could be added or removed as needed.

The entire power generation of the ship is done with fuel cells.

Passengers should be able to experience the environment from all areas and as many angles as possible.

Helix Wingsuites

Helix Wingsuites

Novel highlights on board

Modular fire zones: The technical area is made up of modular and redundant fire zones. Customers thus have the chance to adjust the size of the ship quite flexibly. The big added value for our shipyard would be modular standardization production.

The Helix: A spiral staircase is located at the stern of the ship. The space can be thought of as similar to the Quantum class Two70, except that the area extends across all decks. You get the feeling of being on the sea from all the public areas that are there. The sea is always in view. The big challenge here was to ensure passenger flow and usability while utilizing the floor space as efficiently as possible.

Wingsuites: "Every passenger loves the bridge dock - why don't we have more of them?" The solution is the so-called wingsuites, i.e. a kind of winter garden, which promises the same view as the bridge dock. At the same time, the areas are not visible and the passenger retains the necessary privacy.

Exterior facade/passenger cabins: Windows can be opened or closed, so they can also be used as a kind of "mini winter garden", offering flexibility for different cruising areas.

Helix next to Carnival Mardi Gras

Helix next to Carnival Mardi Gras

Sun deck without a chimney: By using fuel cells for the entire energy supply, space is saved on deck that would otherwise be reserved for the chimney. There is room for more features on the sundeck and the required ventilation masts can be "hidden" or integrated into the design much more easily.

Container solution on deck: On deck, a kind of modular "container solution" is used so that certain areas can be flexibly swapped and adapted to the itinerary. For example, food courts can be added and other room concepts removed, depending on the voyage area. This is comparable to the so-called Tiny Houses.
