Let’s Celebrate: New, Innovative Ship Arriving in Miami on Nov. 20

Carnival Celebration Source Carnival Cruise Line

Carnival Cruise Line’s 50th birthday celebration is ready for the grand finale, and it involves a spectacular gift to its guests as the company took delivery of Carnival Celebration, the fleet’s newest Excel-class ship and sister to Mardi Gras, at a signing ceremony at Meyer Turku in Turku, Finland. Carnival President Christine Duffy and Carnival Senior Vice President of New Builds Ben Clement joined CEO of Meyer Turku Tim Meyer to welcome Carnival Celebration into the fleet.

“We have so many reasons to celebrate now that Carnival Celebration has joined as the 24th ship in our fleet. Now, more guests will experience all that our innovative Excel-class has brought to cruising,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. “She represents the culmination of our 50th birthday while also shining a light on our bright future with so much more excitement to come!”

The second ship in Carnival’s groundbreaking Excel-class, Carnival Celebration is stunning from the first step on board, from its three-deck-high atrium to the dozens of dining and beverage concepts spread out across six themed zones – which include the Miami-inspired 820 Biscayne and an homage to all-things travel in The Gateway – plus, the award-winning BOLT roller coaster.

“Our team of shipbuilders are delivering a world-class addition to the Carnival fleet today. She is one of the most technologically advanced and environmentally-friendly ships,” said CEO of Meyer Turku, Tim Meyer. “I am very proud of the results of this great partnership.”

Carnival Celebration will arrive at her homeport of PortMiami on Nov. 20 after a 14-day transatlantic Journeys Cruise from Southampton, England. A naming ceremony will be held that evening which promises a tribute to Carnival’s past and more importantly a look ahead to its exciting future. Carnival Celebration will accommodate more than 5,200 guests, expanding Carnival’s overall capacity and adding a spectacular new option for guests sailing from Miami as it operates Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries year-round. The week-long voyages will visit destinations like San Juan, Puerto Rico, Cozumel, Mexico and Grand Turk. To see current sailings from Miami on Carnival Celebration, click here.

Debuting from the redesigned Terminal F at PortMiami, Carnival Celebration will join sister Mardi Gras as the second Carnival ship in the fleet with a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) propulsion system, part of Carnival Corporation’s pioneering green cruising platform.

CARNIVAL LUMINOSA ARRIVES IN AUSTRALIA

First Carnival Ship to be Homeported in Brisbane
Kicks Off Line’s Period of Growth

MIAMI, Oct. 31, 2022 – Carnival Luminosa officially arrived in Queensland, Australia, yesterday, marking the first ship from the fleet to be homeported in Brisbane.

Carnival Luminosa, which docked at the Brisbane International Cruise Terminal with a special “We Love Queensland” message to locals, will set sail on her first cruise on Nov. 6 and operate 28 sailings through April 13, 2023, visiting 60 ports of call across Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific including Airlie Beach and The Great Barrier Reef. These sailings will support Carnival Australia’s anticipated $165 million contribution to the Queensland economy this year.

Including Luminosa, Carnival is adding five beautiful new ships to its fleet over the next two years in a period of growth. Next in the lineup of exciting additions is the delivery of not one but two Excel-class ships – Carnival Celebration to Miami in late November and Carnival Jubilee to Galveston, Texas, next year.

As part of this growth plan, Carnival will also introduce a new concept, “Carnival Fun Italian Style” with two additional ships from sister brand Costa Cruises – starting with Carnival Venezia joining next spring and sailing year-round from New York City and Carnival Firenze in 2024 sailing from Long Beach and adding to Carnival’s strong presence on the West Coast.

“Carnival Luminosa is a testament to our ongoing commitment to Australia, and the start of a period of growth unlike any other in Carnival’s 50-year history,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. “Having a Brisbane-based ship has been a goal of ours for quite some time, so we are so happy that they are the first market globally to experience the big, bright, fun that this ship has to offer and so excited to give our guests more Carnival ships and itinerary options to sail over the next two years.”

Carnival Luminosa joined the fleet on Sept. 8 and underwent enhancements over the last two months including the addition of Carnival’s signature red, white and blue hull livery as well as guest favorites from other Carnival ships. Following her time in Brisbane, Carnival Luminosa will reposition for seasonal service from Seattle to Alaska next May, before returning to Queensland later in the year.

Holland America Line's Rotterdam Arrives at New York City on Historic Maiden Call

Please note: some posts may contain affiliate links which means our team could earn money if you purchase products from our site

Ship to overnight in celebration of the cruise line's 150th Anniversary

SEATTLE, Oct. 26, 2022  /PRNewswire/ -- Holland America Line's Rotterdam arrived at New York City this morning on its maiden call to the city following a transatlantic crossing that departed Rotterdam, the Netherlands, Oct. 15. The ship is nearing the end of a 15-day cruise that is recreating the maiden voyage of Holland America Line's first ship — Rotterdam I — that departed Rotterdam 150 years ago Oct. 15, 1872.

Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine officially declared today, Oct. 26, an "honorary day" for Holland America Line to recognize the occasion and the historic contributions of the company to Manhattan throughout its 150 years.

To celebrate the milestone, an event is being held on board tonight for invited guests. A highlight of the evening will be the performance of a musical piece by Emmy Award-winning producer and Emmy-nominated composer Steven Schoenberg, written exclusively for Holland America Line's anniversary to accompany a special short film about the cruise line's journey. The composition will be performed by a 25-piece ensemble of former Holland America Line's Lincoln Center Stage musicians.

In addition, the premium line will introduce a partnership with The Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation to celebrate the cruise line's 150-year journey from immigrant carrier to consumer ocean liner fleet. The partnership features on-board video content across Holland America Line's entire fleet produced by an Ellis Island researcher, as well as a curated exhibit launching in 2023 at Ellis Island detailing the brand's historical prominence in bringing one in 10 immigrants from Europe to the United States.

"We are excited to be celebrating our 150th Anniversary in such a vibrant city with our newest ship on a rare overnight call," said Gus Antorcha, Holland America Line's president. "There's nothing like sailing into New York under the Verrazano Bridge, past the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Standing on deck, you can't help but think back to more than a century ago, feeling the emotion of arriving in America for the first time. Recreating our first voyage has been a once-in-a-lifetime experience."

During the crossing, guests indulged in exclusive menus that showcase Holland America Line's 150-year history with entrées each evening reminiscent of dishes served as early as the 1920s. One special 150th Gala Menu only featured items — from appetizers to desserts — from a previous Holland America Line voyage.

In addition to the cuisine, special programming included a "Throwback Happy Hour" that rolled back time with drinks priced as low as 25 cents, Dutch High Tea, presentations that relived the history and roots of the company and anniversary-themed trivia.  Holland America Line also introduced a limited-edition Pilsner beer — HAL Pils — in a commemorative can adorned with the iconic Jan van Beers advertising poster of 1898 showing a woman holding a Holland America Line steamship above her head.

For travelers looking to continue the celebration, many of the same special culinary and enrichment programs will be offered on another 150th Anniversary Transatlantic departing April 6, 2023, from New York, ending at Rotterdam April 18, the cruise line's 150th birthday.

CARNIVAL CONQUEST DEBUTS FIRST DEDICATED PICKLEBALL COURT IN CARNIVAL FLEET

Pickleball Player

MIAMI – Pickleball is one of America’s fastest-growing sports, and now it has a special place on board America’s Cruise Line, with Carnival Conquest debuting the first dedicated pickleball court in the Carnival fleet.

Carnival Conquest’s team members were the first to test out the new pickleball court that was added during its recent dry dock. The new court is located on the ship’s top deck, so picklers can enjoy the fun of their favorite game and take in beautiful ocean views all at once.
Pickleball is a two- or four-person sport where players hit a perforated hollow ball over a net using solid-faced paddles, combining elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong. The game has existed for decades, but it has seen surging popularity across the U.S. recently and growing interest internationally as well.

While Carnival Conquest has become the first Carnival ship to feature a permanent pickleball court, the game can be played on board several other ships across the Carnival fleet as well – with equipment recently added to most ships featuring basketball courts, where the game can be played.

Pickleball Equipment

Pickleball joins several other popular activities as part of Carnival SportSquare, which includes facilities for games such as mini golf, volleyball and basketball. For more about onboard activities, click here.

Carnival Conquest’s pickleball court is one of several recent ship enhancements, which also includes the addition of Carnival’s new signature livery which features a stunning red, white, and blue hull design.

Carnival Conquest sails from PortMiami year-round and offers a range of itineraries to The Bahamas as well as other Caribbean destinations. To view current sailings offered aboard Carnival Conquest, click here

SEATTLE, Oct. 26, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- Holland America Line's favorite four-legged friend, Joska the service dog, reached a milestone achievement of 700 cruise days on Rotterdam's current 150th Anniversary Transatlantic Crossing, making her eligible to receive the Platinum Medallion, the highest past-guest award for cruising days. Joska, a 10-year-old black Labrador retriever, is the ultimate globetrotter and spends most of her days cruising on Holland America Line with her owners, Cornelia "Connie" and Cornelis Marinussen, who previously received their Platinum Medallions.

"Joska is the first service animal to achieve this lofty status and we wanted to honor her..."

A special ceremony for Joska was held on board Rotterdam Oct. 26 to mark the milestone. Holland America Line President Gus Antorcha and Rotterdam's Captain Werner Timmers presented Joska with her Platinum Medallion, 5-Star Mariner status (highest level) in the cruise line's loyalty program and a selection of dog-friendly, Holland America Line-branded gifts.

"Joska is the first service animal to achieve this lofty status and we wanted to honor her with an event that shows her how special she is to everyone in our company," said Antorcha. "Registered service animals are always welcome aboard Holland America Line ships, and Joska has become a member of our family. She not only brightens the spirits of everyone on board, but she also allows Connie to do what she loves most, which is to cruise and explore the world."

The Dutch couple have been cruising with Holland America Line since 2013 and have taken nearly 60 cruises. From Alaska, Hawaii and Canada to Europe, the Caribbean, and the Mediterranean, Joska has sailed on more than 50 Holland America Line voyages since joining the Marinussen family in 2014 to assist Cornelia, who is legally blind, and is among the most traveled dogs in the world.

SEATTLE, Oct. 25, 2022 /PRNewswire/ --

Holland America Line is saying cheers to its 150th Anniversary by introducing a limited-edition Pilsner beer – HAL Pils – made in partnership with Pike Brewing that will be served on board across the fleet. Holland America Line chose the Seattle-based brewing company to honor the location of its U.S. headquarters and position as Seattle's Hometown Cruise Line.

"There's no better way to honor our past and celebrate our present than to choose a classic beer style like a Pilsner..."

A Pilsner was selected due to its classic European style and newfound popularity in the craft brewing world. A zesty, bright and refreshingly hoppy brew, HAL Pils is made with Mosaic Hops, an iconic hop from the Yakima Valley in Washington state, yielding floral and light melon flavors, big aroma and a dry finish.

"A special-edition brew in a beautiful collector's can is the perfect way to mark our 150th anniversary," said Anthony Stice, vice president of dining and beverage operations for Holland America Line. "There's no better way to honor our past and celebrate our present than to choose a classic beer style like a Pilsner that's having a resurgence in the craft beer world. It's clean, refreshing, and crisp and our guests are really going to enjoy this exclusive production."

The commemorative can is adorned with the iconic Jan van Beers poster of 1898 showing a woman in a nautical-blue dress and striped, white hat that mirrors the funnels of the Holland America Line steamship she's holding above her head. Holland America Line gave the label a twist with the company's modern logo and updated color scheme.

HAL Pils will be available in all bars and lounges fleetwide starting in January 2023. Six-packs also will be available for purchase in the shipboard shops.

Guests sailing during 2022 holiday season to experience a whole new holiday dining offering—including a new gourmet Thanksgiving menu

SANTA CLARITA, Calif., Oct. 19, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- Guests sailing on a Princess Cruises vacation over the 2022 holiday season will enjoy a host of new gourmet dining options and traditional go-to's. Today, the Princess culinary arts team, led by Chef Rudi Sodamin, unveiled the Princess Cruise Culinary Collection of Holiday Menus, a new series of inspired fare available in the main dining rooms throughout the fleet ranging from a Thanksgiving feast featuring five entrees, to the meaningful and fun foods of Hanukkah, delectable Christmas dishes from traditions around the world, and concluding with a sparkling New Year's Gala menu.

Over the Thanksgiving holiday period, Princess will offer dozens of sailings to ports of call around the world. No matter where they happen to be in their itinerary, each ship will recognize the American Thanksgiving holiday on November 24 in high style—with festive autumnal decorations, and Thanksgiving-inspired activities with football broadcast on outdoor big screens. Of course, the centerpiece of the Princess Cruise Thanksgiving celebration will be the elaborate Thanksgiving feast.

"Growing up in a large family, holiday meals were always extremely important to me and a source of excitement and anticipation. But it wasn't until I was an adult and went to work at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City that I learned about the American tradition of Thanksgiving where food is the undisputed star of the show," said the Austrian-born Sodamin, head of Culinary Arts for Princess Cruises. "The imaginative and innovative new Thanksgiving menu honors cherished holiday traditions while also introducing some exciting fresh options that we hope can become new favorites. Collaborating with our talented team of culinary artists on this menu has been a meaningful and memorable.  This year will be a totally stress-free holiday as we'll do all the shopping, cooking and clean up too!"

"The entire Food & Beverage staff sees this new Thanksgiving menu as an opportunity to go the extra mile in impressing our guests," says Sami Kohen, Princess' vice president of food and beverage. "Princess has always done a great job taking the stress out of the holidays and making each holiday special for our guests, and with this new Thanksgiving menu, we have elevated the experience to a whole new level."

The four-course Thanksgiving menu offers a choice of five entrées. Naturally, there will be juicy whole roasted turkey served with apple sage dressing, giblet gravy and the rest of the traditional American Thanksgiving trimmings like caramelized sweet potato, brussels sprouts and whole cranberry sauce. Vegetarians will appreciate the offering of homemade potato gnocchi with roasted butternut squash and sage in a light Champaign-parmesan cream or the grilled vegetable mille feuille with roasted red pepper sauce. The other entrées on offer are a grilled jumbo shrimp and seared sea scallops combination with a tomato-caper beurre blanc and a festive pineapple-glazed ham spiked with cloves served in a pineapple-bourbon sauce with mashed yams. Collaboration to Commemorate Cruise Line's Beginnings as Immigrant Carrier with On-Board Content and a Curated Exhibit at Ellis Island

SEATTLE, Oct. 19, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- Holland America Line will partner with The Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation, the 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the eponymous landmarks, to celebrate the cruise line's 150-year journey from immigrant carrier to consumer ocean liner fleet. The partnership, which kicks off October 26 as Holland America Line completes the recreation of the brand's first-ever sailing from Rotterdam to New York City, features on-board video content across Holland America's entire fleet produced by an Ellis Island researcher, as well as a curated exhibit launching in 2023 at Ellis Island detailing the brand's historical prominence in bringing 1 in 10 immigrants from Europe to the United States.

"Our history is deeply woven within the fabric of America's story," said Gus Antorcha, president, Holland America Line.

"Our history is deeply woven within the fabric of America's story," said Gus Antorcha, president, Holland America Line. "It's only fitting that as we celebrate this milestone anniversary, we partner with the entity responsible for restoring and preserving Ellis Island, the entrance to America that so many of our passengers experienced on their journey to a new start."

The collaboration will launch with a joint talk between Stephen Lean, director of The American Family Immigration History Center at Ellis Island and Bill Miller, noted cruise historian, detailing the immigrant experience in the late 1800s; the presentation will be available on-demand across all ships within the fleet. Noting the cruise industry's – and particularly Holland America Line's – importance in the immigrant journey from Europe to US, the Foundation will curate an exhibit in its History Center available for visitors from February to April 2023.

"We are excited and proud to partner with Holland American Line to celebrate the line's impact on Ellis Island history and the U.S. immigrant experience," said Jesse Brackenbury, president and CEO of The Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation. "Holland America Line's relevance is reflected daily at our Family History Center where historic ship images adorn the walls and visitors learn about their ancestors' journey to America. We look forward to a longstanding collaboration."

The cruise line, which was founded in the Netherlands in 1873 as the Netherlands-American Steamship Company, was primarily a carrier of immigrants from Europe to the United States until well after the turn of the century, carrying nearly 2 million passengers to new lives in the New World. Holland America Line was the first to do away with "Steerage class" altogether, renaming it "Emigrants Class" where unlike the competition, guests were served three square meals. It is this level of care and attention to detail – a tradition and hallmark of the brand that has continued to this day – that was the impetus for its nickname at the time: "The Spotless Fleet." Holland America Line provided everything from doctors and a pre-departure hotel complete with English lessons and classes on American civics to ensure passengers a safe journey to New York; and in fact, 99% of the immigrants carried on the fleet were cleared for entry through Ellis Island, a tremendous feat at the time.

Holland America Line began the recreation of its first voyage with a sendoff October 15 from the Netherlands. The ship will sail past the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island as it arrives in New York City around 7am October 26.

"'A City on the Sea' is a unique interpretation of a behind-the-scenes view by not only showing how our ships operate, but also by sharing some amazing stories of the people who make it happen," said Michael Smith, senior vice president, guest experience and product development, Holland America Line. "We put a lot of thought into how we can make this show a transformative moment where the complexity of running a floating city becomes a celebration of the human spirit and all that we're capable of accomplishing."

When Carnival Cruise Line guests start sailing on Carnival Luminosa, they will find an array of special features that make the ship unique to the fleet.

Only found on Carnival Luminosa and serving as the centerpiece of the 10-deck-high atrium is a particularly monumental bronze sculpture titled “Reclining Woman 2004” that was specially commissioned for this ship from world-renowned Colombian artist Fernando Botero. The multi-million-dollar sculpture, more than 11 feet in length and weighing nearly one ton, depicts a female figure, daydreaming in a reclining position with a subtle and ironic facial expression. She serves as a good luck charm to the ship, her crew and guests.

Other unique features include a two-deck-high sliding sky dome over the ship’s large pool deck, allowing the area to be used in all types of weather; a collection of 120 Murano glass light fixtures and chandeliers; and a sunset deck bar perfect for enjoying a drink in an enchanting atmosphere. The ship will also feature one of the fleet’s largest spas spanning across two decks with one of the most expansive thermal areas, as well as a large casino with beautiful sea views, nearly 200 new slot machines catering to all tastes, a variety of table games and a nearby arcade with games for guests of all ages to enjoy.

“While Carnival Luminosa will feel like a Carnival ship through and through with our signature service and offerings, the ship will offer her own unique features that our guests are going to love,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line.

Carnival Luminosa will serve as the first Carnival ship to be homeported in Brisbane, Australia with a variety of itineraries beginning on Nov. 6, 2022 and running through April 13, 2023. The ship will then reposition for seasonal service from Seattle to Alaska next May, including some first-time-for-Carnival destinations.
