I Was Told I Would Regret THIS Decision But I Did It Anyway! Level8 Voyageur Check In Luggage

Level8 Voyageur CHECK-IN Luggage Review

Please note: some posts may contain affiliate links which means our team could earn money if you purchase products from our site

First impressions

When style and functionality meet; Say hello to my latest additions in the suitcase collections, introducing Level8 Luggage. Upon the generosity of Level8, I received two of the Voyageur Luggage in sizes 28'' / 26'' in return for an honest review.

We all know when we check luggage airlines don’t mess around! Would a hard shell, big suitcase made to check, hold up to the test?!

I was set for my solo flight across the country when all anyone in the travel space is talking about warning us, “WHATEVER YOU DO DON’T check a bag!”

Despite the current situation of understaffed agencies, help in the baggage service departments seems to feel like an afterthought. I have heard countless stories of airline delays and lost luggage being the number one nightmare and travel horror story of the summer.

Although even after hearing about the headaches, other travelers were experiencing, I wasn’t tempted to sharpen my minimalist travel packing skills and leave these bags behind!

I was going for it! I checked my brand new suitcase across the country. Watch me take this suitcase across the country here.

Unknowing if it would arrive when I did I rolled the dice to see if I would be dealt the short stick for my cruise!

Regardless of these hiccups that are occurring in aviation this summer, I opted to check the smaller of the two hard-shell suitcases. Opting to take the 26’’ for my 6-night adventure starting in Los Angeles. I found this to be the better choice and left me lots of room to pack it to the brim!

Switching things up!

Not sticking to my normal routine! If you have seen me pack or talk about packing for a trip before you know I am a huge fan of packing cubes! Sadly, my laziness kicked in and I didn’t want to climb on a ladder in the garage to dig them out from another bag. So I decided to switch things up and go commando! Just kidding I packed undies but my undies weren’t super organized in their own packing cube-like how I normally pack.

This actually worked to my benefit to get a feel for how much this luggage can actually hold! Spoiler alert it is a lot! My luggage weighed in at 44lbs, just 6lbs to spare before being considered an overweight bag!

Sleek & Sexy

I know we are getting cheeky talking about my undergarments but have no fear, it doesn’t stop there! ;)

I found the outside appearance of the suitcase to be incredibly sleek. The matte black finish is timeless. Level8 actually calls it has a “Micro-diamond Finish” to help eliminate scuffs and scratches. Anything with diamonds in the name sounds fancy right?!

Do I worry that every black bag looks the same… absolutely not! Why? Because this bag simply is not your standard black bag. It’s boxy trunk design makes it uniquely different in design from other bags you will see at the airport! Even though hard shell suitcases have become more popular it still stands out!

Brains and Beauty

The Voyageur Check-In Luggage feels like a double win when you are getting brains and beauty! Brains are the design features and the beauty aspects are the sleek design.

Let’s dive into the brains, aka the design features! The wide handlebar is unlike any suitcase I’ve ever owned. It offers comfort and ease when pushing the heavy bag after a long flight!

Why does this wide handlebar work?! It allows for increased packing space and also delivers stability to the luggage!

For reference I am 5’4’’ this style of luggage is ideal for any taller traveler. The handlebar came up to my belly button when extended! I will assume anyone who is taller than me will really appreciate not having to hunch down and struggle to maneuver the handle as they may have on other types of luggage.

More on the brains and efficient design! The 4 double, 360 wheels pushed smoothly. This helps with one-handed pushing, allowing me to keep my phone in one hand and push with another.

It’s clear the inside compartments were well thought out. I appreciated each side having a zipper closure. This kind of feature is often only put on one side of a bag which I didn’t realize I wanted on both until I saw how much sense this makes! No more opening the luggage and half of my belongings falling out!

Additionally, one side of the luggage has a foldable divider that allows you to separate your belongings. A helpful feature if you choose to not use packing cubes as I did for this trip! When showing the luggage to my husband he thought this area was perfect to keep shoes separate from articles of clothing!

Awarding Bonus Points

What gives the interior extra bonus points in my opinion is the plastic zipper pouch! Incredibly clever space to store liquids like your shampoo or that homemade salsa I decided to pick up on a cruise excursion. Especially comes in handy when the airline is too rough and the salsa bottle breaks! We don’t have to worry about the liquid contaminating and soiling an entire wardrobe!

Fast Facts Worth Mentioning

Ultra-lightweight luggage

Micro-diamond Finish Hard Shell

LIGHTWEIGHT hard shell made of 3-Layer 100% Germany BAYER polycarbonate.

BUILT-IN TSA CODE LOCK

Overall Dimension: 16.6”L X 10.6”W X 25.7”H / 17.1”L X 13.3”W X 27.3”H / 16.6”L X 13.3”W X 29.1”H

Equipped with top and side easy grab handles. Bumper feet on the side for protecting the case

Durable 360° Spinner Wheels with anti-shock design

Reason to Celebrate!

I made my flight without any delays and my luggage arrived! These days this calls for a major victory dance! Even after being fatigued from my early morning flight, I was able to receive my bag from the baggage belt and easily spin across the airport all the way to the LAX hotel shuttle area, thanks to the Durable 360° Spinner Wheels with anti-shock design.

Hurray for a luggage victory! I was all set with stylish and sleek luggage ready to be on my way the next morning to board, Royal Caribbean’s Navigator of the Seas from San Pedro.

Be my luggage twin!

Zone to Feature Second Seagoing Restaurant

by World-Renowned Chef and Restaurateur Emeril Lagasse

MIAMI, June 8, 2022 – Carnival Cruise Line’s next ship, Carnival Celebration, will feature The Gateway, an entirely new area on two decks that celebrates travel and the excitement of exploring new destinations. The zone was revealed during a virtual press conference today hosted by Carnival Cruise Line President Christine Duffy.

With design and décor inspired by grand terminals, transportation stations and departure points around the world, the entertainment, dining and shopping zone will feature a promenade highlighted by 12 high-definition multimedia virtual windows displaying unique scenes. The 9.5’ by 5’ windows and the nearly 100’ LED ceiling will be complemented by show lighting and a state-of-the-art sound system to create a truly immersive experience throughout the zone.

By day, guests will be entertained with relaxing scenes like a sunny sky, but by night, the zone will take varying nightly themes, transporting guests to far-off places throughout the world. Some of the theme nights will include Abroad in Europe, Far East Voyage and Mexico Lindo.

“The Gateway was created to celebrate the enriching experience we all feel when traveling – not only because of the destinations we travel to, but also the world of cultures we get to explore,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. “We have millions of guests and team members who come from around the world to have fun together and create a welcoming and inclusive environment while sailing to new places – that is the beauty of traveling, especially on a Carnival ship, and that is what this zone will celebrate.”

The zone’s offerings will support the night’s theme – from the music played, to the drinks and food served, and the entertainment activations offered. For example, on Mexico Lindo night, while the window displays and surrounding technology may take guests on a journey through ancient Mayan cities, beautiful beaches, lush jungles, or magical towns, guests will enjoy themed offerings like special margaritas, palomas and agave tastings, accompanied by a specialty food item tied to the evening’s theme. Or for Exploring South America night, as sunset views over the Amazon and Machu Picchu or a moon-lit Rio de Janeiro sweep the scenes, a fun Brazilian celebration will get everyone on their feet while they sip on a Caipirinha or a Chilcano and indulge in a themed bite.

“When designing this innovative and transformative environment, we wanted to make sure that there was something new and exciting to see and experience every time a guest walks through the zone between day and night, and from day to day,” said Ben Clement, senior vice president of new builds, refurbishment and product innovation. “We also wanted to ensure that the entire promenade in The Gateway was connected and that the upper level was engaged with what is happening below.”

The Gateway’s main promenade will be home to a new travel-inspired bar concept, Latitudes. Latitudes will be reminiscent of a classic airport or train station with travel-themed chairs, menus and a mechanical split-flap display board, a modern take on the classic “departures” board that is being custom built by Oat Foundry in Philadelphia. Uniquely designed to come to life periodically with motion and sounds, including the familiar clack clack sound that sparks memories of past travels, the board will change to display the bar’s daily menu offerings and will include messages to support the imagery on the surrounding virtual windows. Offerings will include cocktails, spirits and wines from destinations around the world as well as special tastings and samplers.

Every evening, guests will enjoy a new Celebration Happy Hour event at Latitudes that will be hosted by the entertainment team and serve as an opportunity to celebrate special occasions and milestones such as birthdays, anniversaries and more.

Bringing the best from Mardi Gras to Carnival Celebration, The Gateway will also include the second seagoing restaurant by world-renowned chef and restaurateur Emeril Lagasse, Emeril’s Bistro 1397, but this time, with a twist – and we’re not just talking about the new name of the venue to represent this ship’s hull number. The menu will not only feature guest-favorites from Mardi Gras but will also offer the best of international cuisines and flavors presented with a special Carnival flair for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The restaurant will boast seating along the promenade’s walkway as well as a dedicated and more intimate dining area with ocean views.

The Gateway will also feature a large digital map display showcasing the locations of Carnival’s ships around the world in real time. The zone will be home to the recently revealed bar and lounge, The Golden Jubilee, as well, which ties into the zone’s theme of travel, celebrating Carnival’s 50 years of fun and the line’s Fun Ships that have served as their own destinations and as a means to travel around the world for the past five decades.

The ship’s main dining rooms adjacent to The Gateway will pay homage to Carnival’s history, with the forward Carnivale Restaurant, named after Carnival’s second ship, and the aft Festivale Restaurant, named after Carnival’s third ship.

Adjacent are also guest favorites including the cocktail pharmacy-themed Alchemy Bar, Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse, Carnival Kitchen, and Limelight Lounge.

The Gateway is the final zone aboard Carnival Celebration, joining 820 Biscayne, Celebration Central, The Ultimate Playground, Summer Landing, and Lido zones.

Carnival Celebration will be the second Carnival ship to be powered by a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) propulsion system, part of Carnival Corporation’s green cruising platform, and will include BOLT, the award-winning roller coaster at the top of the ship. Carnival Celebration will debut in November from the redesigned state-of-the-art Terminal F at PortMiami, the line’s third terminal at the port and its largest in South Florida. The terminal will be among the first to be shore-power ready in 2023.

Additional details on Carnival Celebration will be revealed in the coming months leading up to the ship’s inaugural sailing from Miami on Nov. 21.

CARNIVAL DEPLOYS MENU MATE FOOD INGREDIENT PROGRAM FLEETWIDE

CARNIVAL CRUISE LINE IS FIRST MAJOR CRUISE LINE IN U.S. TO GET ENTIRE FLEET BACK TO GUEST OPERATIONS

Software Helps Guide Guests with Food Allergies

Extensive dining options help feed the fun at Carnival Cruise Line, and as anyone with food allergies knows, having a variety of healthy choices is more than just enjoyable – but also important to safety. That’s why Carnival is now introducing the Menu Mate™ food ingredient program fleetwide to accommodate guests with special diets more efficiently than ever.

“Making sure everyone is included in the fun and has the best experience possible is extremely important to us,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. “We are always looking for new ways to help our crew enhance our guests’ experiences, and that’s exactly what this new program is doing on our ships for those with food allergies.”

Easily operated on touch-screen tablets at food venues across the Carnival fleet, the Menu Mate food ingredient program is powered by award-winning CertiStar software to mitigate the risks of allergic reactions. The new program is the first of its kind among major cruise lines.

"I'm a lifelong cruiser, with my first time on a Carnival cruise as a teenager, so I know firsthand how important it is to make the most of every moment with family and friends. As someone with food allergies, I don't want to waste time deliberating over what I can eat, so I'm especially excited to help share this effort with my fellow cruise lovers," said Shandee Chernow, CEO and founder of CertiStar.

The new Menu Mate food ingredient program works simply for both guests and crew. Staff will ask guests about food allergies and enter any restrictions into the program. The software will then sort through all available options and display which items are allergen friendly, which options can be modified to exclude allergens and which selections should be avoided. If preferred, guests can also use the Menu Mate designated tablet themselves to enter in their own allergy/dietary information and then order from the options curated to meet their needs.

The program eliminates the lengthy process of conferring between guests, wait staff and chefs over the ingredients of menu items and possible substitutions. Now that the process of selecting items with allergen friendly ingredients is simplified, it is also no longer necessary for guests to inform Carnival of food allergies in advance of their cruise. To hear about one guest’s recent experience ordering onboard meals with the help of a Menu Mate tablet, click here.

To ensure the program’s efficiency, Carnival culinary staff studied recipes across the line and worked to capture any potential allergen conflicts by inputting accurate ingredient information into the CertiStar software. To use the program directly and research allergen friendly options on their own, guests will be able to find a Menu Mate tablet on display near the Lido buffet stations as well.

Holland America Ship Christened in Namesake City in a Ceremony Steeped with Tradition

Holland America Line's Holds Naming Ceremony for Rotterdam with Godmother Her Royal Highness Princess Margriet of the Netherlands

Ship christened in namesake city in a ceremony steeped with tradition

Holland America Line's flagship Rotterdam received the royal treatment in a ceremony rich with Dutch heritage May 30, 2022, in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Her Royal Highness Princess Margriet of the Netherlands served as godmother and officially named the ship in front of invited dignitaries and guests.

Holland America Line's Flagship Rotterdam Named in Rotterdam, Netherlands, by Her Royal Highness Princess Margriet.

Upon arrival, Princess Margriet was welcomed at the gangway with a traditional floral bouquet presented by seven-year-old Nora van Dijk, daughter of Nathalie van Dijk, who has been with Holland America Line for 15 years, most recently as a business development representative in sales in the Rotterdam office. During the daytime naming celebration, Carnival Corporation President and CEO Arnold Donald, Holland America Group President Jan Swartz, Rotterdam Captain Werner Timmers, Lord Mayor of Rotterdam Ahmed Aboutaleb and Mariner Ambassadors David and Gisela Gere joined Princess Margriet to officially welcome Rotterdam to the fleet.

"Our heritage is rooted here in the Netherlands, and we are deeply honored to have Her Royal Highness Princess Margriet as godmother of her fifth Holland America Line ship," said Gus Antorcha, president of Holland America Line. "When Rotterdam was delivered in 2021 we postponed its naming ceremony so we could hold it in Rotterdam, because there's no better place to name a ship than in the city it was named after. After a challenging couple of years, we are excited to celebrate this memorable moment in our company's history."

Following the ceremony, a gala luncheon was held onboard for invited guests. The festivities continued into the evening with a gala dinner and the opportunity for guests to pour champagne over the ship's bell. The blessing of the ship's bell is a Holland America Line tradition when welcoming a new ship to the fleet.

Rotterdam's naming ceremony also was attended by Stein Kruse, senior advisor to the chairman and CEO, Carnival Corporation; Keith Taylor executive vice president, fleet operations Holland America Group; Randy Weisenburger, board member, Carnival Corporation; Nico Bleichrodt, vice president, international sales, Holland America Line and Seabourn; Jaap Smit, commissioner to the King; and Boudewijn Siemons, COO, Port Of Rotterdam and Chairman of the Cruise Policy Board. Antorcha was unable to attend the ceremony.

The Geres were selected as Mariner Ambassadors for Rotterdam to honor Holland America Line's appreciation of its loyal guests who are long-time cruisers. Since first sailing in 1988 aboard Rotterdam V, the Geres have sailed nearly 2,500 days on Holland America Line, including several cruises on Rotterdam VI.

A History of Royal Namings
Holland America Line's connection to The House of Orange goes back nearly a century to Prince Hendrik launching Statendam III in 1929. Since then, members of the Dutch Royal Family have launched 11 more Holland America Line vessels throughout the years, including Her Royal Highness Princess Margriet who named Prinsendam (1972), Nieuw Amsterdam II (1983), Rotterdam VI (1997) and Oosterdam (2003).

Additional members of the Dutch Royal Family who are godmothers include Queen Máxima, who named Koningsdam in 2016 and Nieuw Amsterdam in 2010. Then-Queen Beatrix served as Eurodam's godmother in 2008. Rotterdam V was launched in 1958 by Queen Juliana. Then-Princess Beatrix named Statendam IV in 1957 and Prinses Margriet in 1960. Nieuw Amsterdam II was launched by Queen Wilhelmina in 1937.

About Rotterdam
The third vessel in the Pinnacle Class series and the seventh ship to bear the name for Holland America Line, Rotterdam carries 2,668 guests and features highly successful amenities and innovations introduced with her sister ships. Throughout the ship, Rotterdam showcases Holland America Line hallmarks that drive one of the highest guest repeat rates in the industry: exquisite cuisine guided by seven of the world's leading chefs; gracious, award-winning service; and superbly appointed staterooms and suites, including family and single accommodations.

Rotterdam delivers the best live music at sea with an exclusive collection of world-class performances nightly at Rolling Stone Rock Room with classic rock hits; Lincoln Center Stage, offering chamber music; Billboard Onboard, where live musicians entertain the crowd with chart-topping hits; and the popular B.B. King's Blues Club, bringing the best of Memphis music to sea. With the 270-degree LED projection at World Stage, Rotterdam immerses guests in panoramic visual and sound effects.

In addition to the impressive Dining Room, guests can delight in specialty restaurants Rudi's Sel de Mer, a French seafood brasserie; Tamarind, exploring traditions of Southeast Asia, China and Japan; Nami Sushi with tasty sushi and Asian spirits; Pinnacle Grill, the ultimate steakhouse at sea; Canaletto with family-style Italian dining; and Club Orange exclusively for guests in the Club Orange program.

Rotterdam to Explore Northern Europe and the Caribbean
Rotterdam's special seven-day "Rotterdam Naming Celebration" cruise departed May 29 and sails roundtrip from Amsterdam, Netherlands, also visiting Kristiansand, Stavanger and Flåm, Norway, with scenic cruising in Sognefjord.

Following the cruise, the ship will homeport out of Amsterdam and spend the season on seven- and 14-day Norway cruises, as well as explorations to Scandinavia, Iceland and the Northern Isles.

On Oct. 15, 1872, Rotterdam I — the first Holland America Line ship — embarked on its maiden voyage from Rotterdam to New York. Exactly 150 years later on Oct. 15, 2022, Rotterdam VII will depart Rotterdam once again as Holland America Line recreates this historic 150th Anniversary crossing with calls at Plymouth, England; New York and Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The ship will then spend the season in the Caribbean sailing tropical itineraries roundtrip from Fort Lauderdale.

CARNIVAL WELCOMES TWO MILLION GUESTS SINCE RESTART

CARNIVAL CRUISE LINE IS FIRST MAJOR CRUISE LINE IN U.S. TO GET ENTIRE FLEET BACK TO GUEST OPERATIONS

As the first major U.S. cruise line with its full fleet back in guest service since the industry’s restart last summer, Carnival Cruise Line has now reached the milestone of welcoming two million guests.

The milestone was commemorated today in Port Canaveral, Fla. aboard Carnival Freedom as the Gibbs family – Daniel and Kristi with son Mason and grandmother Theresa Campbell – from Ocala, Fla. boarded the ship. They were surprised with fanfare from Carnival Freedom’s Captain Mario Imbimbo, Hotel Director, Cruise Director and team members.  A video is available here https://youtu.be/iewulbCIWKo.
The company’s industry pace-setting restart began on July 3, 2021 when Carnival Vista set sail from Galveston and since then 22 additional ships have resumed service, from 13 U.S. homeports all while guests were helping to raise $2.25 million for partner, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

In addition, during this time, guests have taken more than 1.3 million shore excursions in Carnival’s destination ports, and two million Carnival-branded items have been sold in the gift shops fleetwide, including 150,000 items from the line’s 50th Birthday collection.

“We are so pleased to have sailed two million guests since our restart, providing much-needed vacations featuring our signature fun to an array of destinations in the Caribbean, The Bahamas, the Mexican Riviera, Alaska and Europe,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. “All the while, providing an economic boost to those destinations and providing our crew members with opportunities to support their families.”
Carnival will restart in its 14th homeport of New York City in June with Carnival Magic and has announced plans that Carnival Splendor will restart in Australia following its Alaska season with a three-day cruise departing Sydney on October 2, 2022.  And in November, Carnival’s newest ship, Carnival Celebration, featuring a roller coaster and powered by Liquified Natural Gas (LNG), will debut in Miami.

Maiden season on new ship Queen Anne shows demand for Cunard at record levels

Luxury cruise line Cunard has reported that the first day of bookings for new ship Queen Anne proves the busiest booking day in a decade.

The first day of sales shows the incredible strength of demand for our new ship and the Cunard brand is at record levels

The maiden voyage, a seven-night sailing from Southampton departing January 4, 2024, has sold out and demand for Princess & Queens Grill Suites proved especially strong across each of the 10 published new voyages.

"Since we began to unveil details of our fourth ship, the reaction to Queen Anne from guests and travel advisors alike has been phenomenal," said Matt Gleaves, VP, Commercial, North America and Australasia, Cunard.  "The first day of sales shows the incredible strength of demand for our new ship and the Cunard brand is at record levels."

The three busiest booking periods for Cunard in the last decade have now happened since March 2021, with the launch of the UK sailings as the brand returned to service, the launch of the summer 2023 program and now the launch of Queen Anne's maiden program.

Margaritaville at Sea Sets Sail with Surprise Poolside Jimmy Buffett Concert

Christening Ceremony Featuring NFL Game Changer & Godfather Shaquem Griffin

Several Hundred Guests Gathered Together on May 12th for Private One-Night Sneak Peek Cruise Onboard New Margaritaville at Sea Paradise, Followed by First Passenger Sailing May 14th

Margaritaville at Sea, the all-new floating island vacation, made a star-studded debut, welcoming several hundred VIPs, partners, community members and travel advisors for the official christening of its flagship vessel, Margaritaville at Sea Paradise.  The exciting one-night sailing included a traditional christening ceremony and a surprise live concert with singer, songwriter and best-selling author Jimmy Buffett.

The christening ceremony for Margaritaville at Sea Paradise was held at the Stars on the Water Theater, where John Cohlan, CEO of Margaritaville, Oneil Khosa, CEO of Margaritaville at Sea and Kevin Sheehan Jr, President of Margaritaville at Sea spoke about their partnership and participated in a traditional bottle-breaking ceremony to officially christen the ship.

“This journey has not been an easy one, and we’ve battled many challenges, but the best part about Margaritaville at Sea is that this product is so truly innovative, we only have ourselves to compete with, as we push to deliver an unprecedented experience to travelers that gets better and better,” said Oneil Khosa, chief executive officer of Margaritaville at Sea. “It is an honor to celebrate this important milestone as we embark upon a new chapter as Margaritaville at Sea. This is a moment to remember, and we are fortunate to have so many friends, family members and valued partners onboard with us to mark the occasion.”

John Cohlan, CEO of Margaritaville, added “we are excited to celebrate this watershed moment, pun intended, and the much-anticipated debut of Margaritaville at Sea. On behalf of the Margaritaville family, I’d like to thank everyone that helped us get here and we look forward to many years of smooth sailing ahead.”

As part of the christening ceremony, NFL Game Changer Award winner Shaquem Griffin was introduced as Godfather.  As he spoke about what the title means to him, Griffin said, “it is an honor to serve as an extension of the amazing Margaritaville family and to be chosen as the godfather of Margaritaville at Sea Paradise. This company has continually strived to be better than it was before, and I am proud to be onboard as part of the journey.”

After Griffin spoke, Pastor Christine Bandy-Helderman blessed the ship. A video was shown depicting the ship’s transformation and preparation to be christened. In an emotional moment, Margaritaville at Sea President Kevin Sheehan, Jr. acknowledged his parents and spoke about the journey of their family cruise business before sharing a list of nationalities represented by the ship’s crew and encouraging guests to honor crew members from the Ukraine – including the ship’s captain and staff captain. The ceremony ended with a celebratory moment, as attendees were covered in streamers and beach balls.

After the christening ceremony, guests were treated to a Margaritaville at Sea sail-away party, where they were transported into a Margaritaville state of mind with a surprise hour-long live performance by Jimmy Buffett, including fan favorites like “Margaritaville” and “Cheeseburger in Paradise.”

‘Tales from Margaritaville: Jimmy’s Ship Show’

Later, guests attended an exclusive preview of ‘Tales from Margaritaville: Jimmy’s Ship Show,’ written and produced by Buffett and producer Frank Marshall, and enjoyed a selection of dining options including JWB Prime Steakhouse, Margaritaville’s signature laid-back luxe dining experience. The night ended with games, salsa dancing lessons, a tropical glow party and a Caribbean-themed pool deck soirée under the stars.

On May 14th, following the christening and private inaugural sailing, Margaritaville at Sea Paradise set sail on her first passenger sailing. The ship provided travelers access to Margaritaville’s iconic lifestyle during a two-night, round-trip, voyage from the Port of Palm Beach to Grand Bahama Island, including lively onboard entertainment and gourmet food and beverage options. Those looking to extend their stay in paradise can book the line’s “Cruise & Stay” package, which conveniently bundles a round-trip cruise with up to four nights at a premium beachfront resort on Grand Bahama Island.

Shaquem Griffin Named Godfather of Margaritaville at Sea Paradise

Florida Native, NFL Game Changer Award Winner & Collegiate Man of the Year to Christen Flagship Vessel

During VIP Inaugural Celebration on May 12th

Palm Beach, Fla. (May 11, 2022)Margaritaville at Sea, the all-new floating island vacation brand, today announced that Shaquem Griffin, the winner of the NFL Game Changer Award as well as the NCAA Inspiration Award, will serve as godfather of its flagship vessel, Margaritaville at Sea Paradise.  Griffin will participate in a traditional christening ceremony during a VIP inaugural sailing on May 12th before the line launches with its first passenger sailing on May 14th from the Port of Palm Beach, Florida to Grand Bahama Island.

“We’re proud to have Shaquem join the Margaritaville at Sea family as godfather of Margaritaville at Sea Paradise,” said Oneil Khosa, chief executive officer of Margaritaville at Sea. “As a passionate philanthropist, Shaquem’s efforts within our local community align with our own commitment to giving back, and he is a true inspiration on every front. We are honored to have him serve in this very special role as our first-ever godfather.”

In addition to his impressive football career, which includes Defensive Player of the Year honors and an undefeated season his senior year at the University of Central Florida, Shaquem has an extensive background in community service. Born with Amniotic Band Syndrome and having his left hand amputated when he was four, he has been a zealous advocate for the physically challenged community, seeing children with birth defects as their ‘own little nation’ who support each other in the fight against those who tell them they’re unworthy.  Shaquem, along with his twin brother and former NFL teammate Shaquill, started the St. Petersburg Nitro Track Club, a 501 (c)(3) entity with which they are both still intimately involved to this day. Margaritaville at Sea will be making a donation to the organization as part of the brand’s relationship with Griffin.

As godfather of Margaritaville at Sea Paradise, Shaquem will fulfill the centuries-old maritime tradition of officially naming the new ship.  Following her christening ceremony and inaugural sailing on May 12th, Margaritaville at Sea Paradise prepares to welcome guests onboard beginning May 14th.  The new ship and brand will provide travelers access to Margaritaville’s iconic lifestyle during a two-night, round-trip, bucket-list-worthy voyage to Grand Bahama Island, including lively onboard entertainment, gourmet food and beverage options, and casual-luxe staterooms. Those looking to extend their stay in paradise can book the line’s “Cruise & Stay” package, which conveniently bundles a round-trip cruise with up to four nights at a beachfront resort on Grand Bahama Island.

About Shaquem Griffin

Shaquem Griffin was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft, improbably reuniting him with his twin brother Shaquill, who was drafted the year before by the same team.  In 2021, Shaquem signed with the Miami Dolphins and enters the 2022 season as a free agent.  His incredible journey and inspiring story have been captured by media outlets worldwide, including appearances on 60 Minutes, The Today Show and Fox & Friends.  To further expand his global impact, Shaquem, with his brother, wrote a book, “Inseparable,” that details his against all odds life story.   Off-the-field and in the community, Shaquem has served as Grand Marshal of the Special Olympics USA Games and as ambassador for iconic brands that preach his messages of never doubting yourself and not allowing negativity to dictate who you become.

Who is Margaritaville at Sea targeting to cruise with them?

Margaritaville at Sea’s target potential customers are those that are familiar with the Margaritaville brand. Often known as Parrot Head or parrothead, this  is a commonly used nickname for Jimmy Buffett fans with "parakeets" or "keets" used for younger fans, or children of Parrotheads.

What if you have never been on a cruise before?

The vessel, Margaritaville Paradise, will have 1600 guest capacity and provides a short getaway 2- night cruise product. But if getaway to paradise for a quick 2 nights isn’t long enough, you have additional options to extend your holiday!

All guests must be fully vaccinated and have to be tested prior to their cruise. A Margaritaville representative confirmed that guests will be able to take a test in Port of Palm Beach cruise terminal.

Is Sustainability Top of Mind for Margaritaville at Sea?

This is an incredibly important goal that other cruise lines have been so vocal about. So naturally we are curious to what a brand new cruise line has to say about sustainability.

These days, each brand new ship that comes online is purpose built to include features to reduce the amount of emissions. Additionally many new ships are being built to use a more economically friendly fuel called LNG (liquified natural gas).

Since the Margaritaville Paradise was originally an older vessel and has been retrofitted it won’t be able to use LNG (liquified natural gas) or hook up to shore power to help reduce emissions.

Dealing with the challenges of operating an older vessel in an increasingly eco-conscious world, Margaritaville at Sea has vocally committed to being as sustainable as possible with their first ship, Margaritaville Paradise.

Guests can expect to see a plethora of paper and biodegradable products such as straws, and eliminating the use of single-use plastics. Among other efforts to help continue to be a sustainable brand and not harmful to the environment.

You can grab your reusable metal straw if the thought of drinking a frozen cocktail out of a paper straw makes your cringe!

SEATTLE, May 2, 2022 – With the departure of Carnival Splendor from the Port of Seattle today, Carnival Cruise Line celebrates the restart of its entire fleet of ships and Carnival becomes the first major cruise line in the U.S. to achieve that milestone.

Carnival Splendor is the 23rd and final Carnival ship to welcome guests back on board after Carnival’s resumption of cruising from the U.S. last July.  Guests are set to depart from Seattle, Wash. today on an eight-day Alaska cruise, completing an impressive and successful restart of guest operations and setting the pace for the rest of the U.S. cruise industry. Carnival Splendor’s summer itineraries to Alaska are part of a three-ship deployment, along with Carnival Spirit from Seattle and Carnival Miracle from San Francisco – the largest-ever cruise program Carnival has sailed to Alaska.

“With Carnival Splendor beginning operations today from Seattle, Carnival Cruise Line is thrilled to have our entire fleet of 23 ships back in service, providing more opportunities for our guests to enjoy our signature fun while traveling to beautiful vacation destinations,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. “We are especially excited to expand our Alaska program this season with three ships bringing more than 100,000 guests – including more than 6,000 this week – from Seattle and San Francisco to awe-inspiring Alaska ports.”

To commemorate the line’s return to service from Seattle with Carnival Splendor, Carnival Cruise Line hosted its “Back to Fun” event at the Port of Seattle to officially welcome the first guests on board. Duffy checked off Carnival Splendor on a tally board listing the 23 Carnival ships, signifying the completion of the Carnival fleet’s restart.  Today’s departure is one of 49 cruises to Alaska. Destinations include Ketchikan; Sitka; Skagway; Icy Strait Point; Victoria, BC; and scenic cruising through Tracy Arm Fjord (stops vary depending on cruise date).

Beginning with Carnival Vista restarting service on July 3, 2021, in Galveston, Carnival has completed its full fleet return in just 10 months. Carnival Corporation Installs Environmentally Innovative Food Waste Biodigesters

Carnival Corporation Installs Environmentally Innovative Food Waste Biodigesters

World's largest cruise company installs nearly 600 advanced biodigester machines across its global fleet

Investment in green food waste processing technology to naturally break down food waste supports company's waste management objectives, as part of long-term sustainability goals

MIAMI, May 4, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- Carnival Corporation & plc (NYSE/LSE: CCL;NYSE: CUK), the world's largest cruise company, today announced it has completed the installation of nearly 600 food waste biodigesters across its fleet in support of ongoing food waste management and reduction efforts as part of its overall commitment to environmental compliance. The innovative technology has been added to ships from the company's nine cruise line brands – Carnival Cruise Line, Princess Cruises, Holland America Line, Seabourn, P&O Cruises (Australia), Costa Cruises, AIDA Cruises, P&O Cruises (UK) and Cunard.

The biodigester technology uses a natural aerobic digestion process inside each machine to efficiently break down food waste utilizing a mix of beneficial microorganisms, enabling the systems to process anything that can be consumed by a human. Able to perform automated digestion 24 hours per day, the biodigesters are strategically placed in key areas of the ship where food is processed, further improving onboard operations by making it easier and more efficient for crew members to manage and control food waste. Additionally, the machines capture non-food items or other materials accidentally mixed with food waste, providing an additional layer of protection for environmental compliance on each ship.

Since first piloting the technology in 2019, Carnival Corporation and its nine global cruise line brands have continued to expand the use of these systems across their fleets. Most recently, the company's namesake brand, Carnival Cruise Line, announced it is the first major cruise line to employ biodigesters across its entire fleet as the brand returns its final of 23 total ships to guest operations this month. As Carnival Corporation's entire fleet returns to operations this year, its full lineup of brands will continue to see benefits from improved food waste management as additional biodigesters come online, further strengthening environmental performance across the company's global operations.

The fleetwide biodigester installation supports Carnival Corporation's aggressive food waste management objectives, as part of its 2030 sustainability goals. These goals support the company's circular economy focus area by including a commitment to achieve a 30% reduction in unit food waste by 2022 and a 50% reduction in unit food waste by 2030, as outlined in the company's latest sustainability report. These new goals build on the company's latest achievement of reducing food waste per person by over 20% at the end of 2021, which doubled its original goal of reaching a 10% reduction in food waste by the end of last year, relative to a 2019 baseline.

"The significant investment in this technology goes hand in hand with our highest responsibility and top priority at Carnival Corporation, which is compliance, environmental protection and the health, safety and well-being of our guests, the people in the communities we visit and serve, and our shipboard and shoreside personnel," said Bill Burke, chief maritime officer for Carnival Corporation. "We have made great strides in our circular economy focus area and the rollout of nearly 600 biodigesters represents another important milestone for our ongoing efforts to further minimize our impact on the oceans we sail and the communities we visit while supporting overall food waste management efforts and environmental compliance on board our ships."

In addition to food waste management objectives, the circular economy focus area also includes an ongoing commitment to significantly reduce non-essential single-use plastic items, along with long-term 2030 sustainability goals and 2050 aspirations detailed in the latest sustainability report, including the following:

  • Increase fleetwide coverage of Advanced Waste Water Treatment Systems to over 75% by 2030

  • Send a larger percentage of waste to waste-to-energy facilities where practical by 2030 and aspire to send 100% by 2050

  • Partner with primary vendors to reduce upstream packaging volumes and aspire to partner with primary vendors to ensure near 100% reuse of packaging materials by 2050

  • Aspire to build ships without the need to discharge to the ocean or air (zero-emission ships) by 2050

As part of its longer-term sustainability plan and vision, Carnival Corporation has committed to significant investments to achieve its 2030 sustainability goals and 2050 aspirations, which incorporate six critical sustainability focus areas overall, including climate action; circular economy; sustainable tourism; good health and well-being; diversity, equity and inclusion; and biodiversity and conservation. Among these priorities, the company and its brands have committed to reducing carbon emission intensity by 40% by 2030 and have aspirations to achieve net carbon-neutral ship operations, supporting its efforts to establish a path to zero emission cruising by 2050.

Discovery Princess Officially Named by TV Star Godparents

Randy Fenoli, Chef Alex Guarnaschelli, Adam Savage and Page Turner Christen Princess Cruises' Newest Ship In Traditional Maritime Naming Ceremony

SANTA CLARITA, Calif., April 29, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- In an imaginative ceremony today at the Port of Los Angeles, television stars and show hosts united as godparents and officially named Discovery Princess. The godparents included fashion designer Randy Fenoli, chef Alex Guarnaschelli, special effects designer and fabricator Adam Savage, and real estate broker and flipper extraordinaire Page Turner.

Standing together at the Retreat Pool on the open deck of Discovery Princess with the ship's Captain Gennaro Arma, they pronounced, "We name this ship Discovery Princess. May God bless her and all who sail on her." They then sent a giant Nebuchadnezzar-size bottle of champagne against the ship for the celebratory smash, officially welcoming Discovery Princess into the fleet of Princess Cruises, the world's leading international cruise line and leader on the west coast.

The "Discover Our World" themed ceremony blended maritime tradition with contemporary elements, celebrating the cruise line's exclusive, seven-year Discovery at SEA™ program – bringing the spirit of curiosity and exploration to every cruise through branded experiences like Shark Week at Sea, exclusive shore excursions and onboard activities such as the Camp Discovery youth centers and Stargazing at SEA.

"Today is a celebration to remember as our newest ship, Discovery Princess, is officially named by this talented group of experts and personalities – Randy, Alex, Adam, and Page," said John Padgett, Princess Cruises president. "We can think of no more fitting godparents to mark this significant milestone."
