Homemade, Fresh Pasta and New Dishes Highlight Holland America Line’s Refreshed Canaletto Menu

Updated menu at Italian specialty restaurant features new recipes and cocktails

Seattle, Wash., June 1, 2023 — Fresh pasta made on board and authentic Italian dishes are the focus of Holland America Line’s updated Canaletto menu. Guests dining at the specialty restaurant, which is open for dinner only, can indulge in a meal that includes several new selections, along with signature favorites that remain on the menu.

Canaletto offers a quintessential Italian experience, and all the pasta is made fresh on board by Holland America Line’s expertly trained chefs. The refreshed menu offers a three-course meal that includes Small Plates, Homemade Pastas and Entrées, and Desserts, in addition to a Special of the Day.

“The pasta we make on board is exceptional and we want the updated menu to continue to reflect an Italian experience with a focus on freshness and authenticity,” said Michael Stendebach, Holland America Line’s vice president, food and beverage. “Each course has a selection that brings the flavors of Italy on board no matter where our ships are cruising, and the update adds some exciting new dishes and cocktails.”

Small Plates, Big Flavors

Guests can start their meal at Canaletto with a Small Plate. The popular Antipasto Plate features prosciutto di parma, finocchiona salami, truffle salami, Terre Ducali coppa, Parmigiano Reggiano and Sicilian olives. Other options include Veal and Sage Meatballs, Burrata, Canaletto Salad and Grilled Tiger Shrimp.

Entrées Showcase Fresh Pasta

New dishes include Casarecce Pesto Genovese, Italian Sausage Paccheri, Seared Mediterranean Seabass and Mussels, Scallop and Calamari Trenette. Returning favorites include Chianti-Braised Beef Short Rib and Herb and Parmesan Crusted Chicken Breast. Formerly a once-a-week special, Ossobuco is now offered daily.

Delectable Italian Desserts

Italy is known for its amazing sweets, and Canaletto’s menu features a selection of traditional desserts, including Tiramisu, Lemon Ricotta Baked Cheesecake, Chocolate Hazelnut Tart, Affogato and a trio of gelato. The gelatos are also made fresh daily on board.

Cocktails Feature Italian Favorites

In addition to the cuisine, new cocktails highlight the refreshed menu. Guests can say saluti with an Aperol Spritz, Spumoni (made with Holland America Line’s own De Lijn Gin), Tuscan Lemon Drop and a Canaletto Bellini with a selection of fruit puree. ACCLAIMED LATE NIGHT TALK SHOW HOST AND COMEDIAN JAY LENO NAMED AS ‘GODFATHER’ TO CARNIVAL VENEZIA

Please note: some posts may contain affiliate links which means our team could earn money if you purchase products from our site

ACCLAIMED LATE NIGHT TALK SHOW HOST AND COMEDIAN JAY LENO NAMED AS ‘GODFATHER’ TO CARNIVAL VENEZIA

For the First Time, Carnival Cruise Line Names a Godfather

MIAMI – June 2, 2023 – Carnival Cruise Line today announced that acclaimed late night talk show host and comedian Jay Leno will serve as its first ever godfather to one of its ships, Carnival Venezia™, at a celebratory event on June 14, 2023 when the ship is blessed and enters service from New York City. The ship is the first to incorporate “Carnival Fun Italian Style” that adds Carnival’s signature fun to the beautiful Italian theming of the vessel. In addition to serving as the Godfather, Leno will perform a special comedy show exclusively for Carnival’s event guests, in partnership with Carnival® World Mastercard®.

“Carnival Venezia originally entered service for our Italian sister brand Costa Cruises and was christened in 2019, so she already has a godmother. With Carnival Venezia joining the fleet and sailing from New York, we wanted to ensure a proper welcome for the ship and decided having a godfather would be both fun and appropriate,” said Carnival Cruise Line President Christine Duffy. “And when we thought of someone who would make a FUN godfather with Italian heritage, we knew Jay Leno would be the perfect godfather! And he’s already a member of the Carnival family – he entertained guests a few years ago as part of our Carnival LIVE entertainment series.”

“I am truly honored to be named the godfather of Carnival Venezia. It was an offer I couldn’t refuse,” said Leno. “Carnival’s focus on FUN combined with the Italian theming of this ship is something that is truly unique. I’m also excited to have my very own cruise ship, although I think I’ll need a bigger garage!”

A native of New Rochelle, NY, Leno is the grandson of immigrants from Flumeri, Campania, Italy. He began his entertainment career in stand-up comedy, which led to the nearly two-decades-long role he is best known for as host of The Tonight Show, from which he retired in 2014.  During most of his tenure, Leno’s The Tonight Show was the top-ranked talk show on late night, and he earned the reputation as being “the hardest working man in show business.”

Leno currently produces and is host of the CNBC primetime series Jay Leno’s Garage that is now in its seventh season and explores the world of cars, never forgetting that it’s the people behind the wheel who provide the real stories.  The series debuted in October 2015 and delivered CNBC’s most-watched first season in network history.  He remains in demand as a stand-up performer, corporate speaker and the host of the game show reboot, You Bet Your Life.

Carnival Venezia celebrates Venice, Italy, and has many spaces on board that are reminiscent of her namesake. When guests enter the ship, they arrive in the Venice-inspired atrium Piazza San Marco, the onboard flavor and flair continues at restaurants like the elegant Marco Polo and Canal Grande Restaurants, along with the new Italian specialty restaurant, “Il Viaggio.” Carnival Playlist Productions shows entertain guests at the Teatro Rosso theater that is reminiscent of Italian opera houses.

Guests will also find many Carnival mainstays they know and love on board, including Guy Fieri’s Guy’s Burger Joint, the steakhouse Fahrenheit 555, Bonsai Sushi & Teppanyaki and the Chef’s Table, along with Lido Marketplace, Seafood Shack and Pizzeria del Capitano, Piano Bar 88 and Heroes Tribute Lounge.

Carnival Venezia is set to arrive to her new home in New York City and begin sailing from the Manhattan Cruise Terminal on June 15, 2023. The ship accommodates more than 5,000 guests and will offer 10 different cruise durations and 22 unique itineraries featuring visits to 25 ports across 14 countries.

Carnival Venezia’s celebratory event will be livestreamed. To register for the livestream, click here.

Please note: some posts may contain affiliate links which means our team could earn money if you purchase products from our site

MSC WORLD AMERICA—MIAMI’S NEXT NEW MEGASHIP—CELEBRATES KEY CONSTRUCTION MILESTONE WITH TRADITIONAL COIN CEREMONY EVENT

  • MSC Cruises celebrates MSC World America Coin Ceremony at the Chantiers de l'Atlantique shipyard alongside the Delivery Ceremony of MSC Euribia

  • Milestones for two newest ships exemplify MSC Cruises’ continued expansion as world’s third-largest and fastest growing cruise line

  • Both ships feature latest environmental enhancements as part of line’s continued commitment to sustainability

Saint Nazaire, France – May 31, 2023 MSC Cruises, the world’s third-largest and fastest growing cruise line, celebrated a key milestone today in its strategic U.S. expansion and commitment to sustainability with the Coin Ceremony for MSC World America. The event took place alongside the delivery of MSC Euribia at the Chantiers de l'Atlantique shipyard in France and marked a key phase of construction of MSC World America, the brand’s second ship in its innovative World Class and the first ship specifically designed for the U.S. cruise market powered by Liquified Natural Gas (LNG).

The time-honored maritime ceremony saw commemorative coins placed within the keel of MSC World America by two godmothers, MSC Cruises’ Silvia Turbia and Chantiers de l’Atlantique’s Séverine Blandin, as a sign of blessing and good fortune. When she begins sailing from MSC Cruises’ new, state-of-the-art terminal at PortMiami in April 2025, MSC World America will be the brand’s largest ship in North America.

Rubén A. Rodríguez, President, MSC Cruises USA, said: “Our commitment to bringing our largest, most innovative and environmentally advanced ships to the North American market is stronger than ever, and all of us at MSC Cruises are looking forward to welcoming guests on board MSC World America. The ship’s long list of new spaces and experiences will set a new standard for Caribbean cruising when she arrives in the U.S. in 2025. All of MSC World America’s itineraries include Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, our beautiful island destination that highlights the natural beauty of The Bahamas and our focus on marine conservation. She will join our growing U.S. fleet amid our ongoing homeport expansion, which saw the recent addition of Port Canaveral and New York City with plans for Galveston on the horizon. Together, these initiatives will allow our guests to experience MSC Cruises’ unique international flavor on more ships in more places, and we’re proud to have MSC World America leading the way.”

MSC World America will build on the success of MSC World Europa and become the second World Class ship with key innovations tailored to the North American market, including The Harbor—a brand new outdoor destination that combines a water park, interactive water features, new thrills, and comfortable areas to relax with delicious food and cool beverages for the whole family to enjoy.

Guests will discover a new world of cruising with exciting new restaurants and bars, along with more than 420,000 square feet of public space that combines MSC Cruises’ glamorous European design with American comfort. Sailing exclusively to the Caribbean on 7-night itineraries during her inaugural season—with stops at Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve—MSC World America will further solidify MSC Cruises as an industry leader in the U.S., offering the most modern cruise experience with cutting-edge environmental technology.

Henri Doyer, Chantier de l’Atlantique MSC Program Director, commented: “This 19th ship—the second of the World Class series—is the result of a long partnership between MSC Cruises and Chantiers de l’Atlantique. I am thrilled to announce that MSC World Europa, MSC Euribia, and MSC World America are the 3 most energy efficient, most environment-friendly ships of the cruise industry.”

In addition to commemorating the Coin Ceremony for MSC World America, the cruise line also celebrated the delivery of MSC Euribia, which is “built for the future” and is the most energy-efficient cruise ship design ever. The vessel is the second ship in MSC Cruises’ fleet to be powered by LNG, the cleanest and most efficient fuel currently available commercially at scale. She will feature additional state-of-the-art environmental technologies, including advanced onboard wastewater treatment systems, waste management handling, energy efficiency measures as well innovative underwater radiated noise management systems to reduce the potential impact on the marine environment.

In an industry first, following the Delivery Ceremony, MSC Euribia will complete a net zero greenhouse gas emissions voyage. The ship will sail to Copenhagen, Denmark for the ship’s Naming Ceremony on June 8 utilizing a bio-LNG using a mass-balance system and other efficiency measures to demonstrate that net zero cruising is possible today.

Pierfrancesco Vago, Executive Chairman of the Cruise Division of MSC Group, said: “With the delivery of MSC Euribia, we have taken yet another huge step towards our net zero GHG emissions goal. Alongside her many best-in-class environmental innovations, MSC Euribia features a truly groundbreaking energy efficient design that will deliver huge reduction in GHG emissions throughout her lifetime. Often the focus of decarbonization is solely on supply side measures, and although they are an important part of the energy transition, we must not forget the essential role that energy efficiency will play in reducing energy demand today. The cleanest energy is the energy that we don’t use and MSC Euribia has been constructed with this principle at its heart. This is why she marks with her coming into service such an important milestone toward our goal of achieving net zero CGH marine operations by 2050.”

During her inaugural season, she will offer incredible 7-night itineraries sailing to the Norwegian Fjords with weekly departures from Kiel, Germany and Copenhagen, Denmark.

About MSC World America

FOR INTERNATIONAL BURGER DAY, CARNIVAL CRUISE LINE SERVES UP GUEST FAVORITES AT GUY’S BURGER JOINT BY-THE-NUMBERS

Carnival to Serve Estimated 10.5 Million Burgers This Year

Carnival Cruise Line ships will serve up nearly 30,000 tasty burgers – which is about the daily average fleetwide at Guy’s Burger Joint – this International Burger Day on May 28. In celebration of burgers beloved worldwide, the cruise line is revealing which of its menu items guests order most.
Guy’s Burger Joint, a Carnival mainstay created by longtime partner, celebrity chef and restaurateur Guy Fieri, will serve an estimated 10.5 million burgers this year. Here’s how the popular options stack up:

5.) Pig Patty: 577,000 orders – This burger has many traditional toppings, including lettuce, tomato, onion and pickle, but it also features Super Melty Cheese and a patty made out of crispy bacon.

4.) Chilius Maximus: 640,000 orders – A tasty beef burger patty is made even tastier by topping it with a heaping helping of delicious chili.

3.) The Ringer: 2.3 million orders – The Ringer is topped with Super Melty Cheese plus Guy’s Bourbon and Brown Sugar BBQ sauce, and a crispy and spicy onion ring.

2.) Straight Up: 3.2 million orders – This burger is a classic and the choice of about 30 percent of the orders at Guy’s Burger Joint. It’s topped off with Super Melty Cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle and a liberal slathering of Donkey Sauce.

1.)  Plain Jane:
3.7 million orders – It’s clear, most guests want to choose how to top off their burgers themselves. This 80/20 ground chuck is seasoned, smashed on the grill, and served up to be finished however guests like it at the toppings station, which is featured at every Guy’s Burger Joint fleetwide. The Plain Jane makes up more than a third of all burger orders.

Guy’s Burger Joint launched in 2011 and is featured on all of Carnival’s 25 ships serving up the best burgers at sea. Select Carnival ships also feature Guy’s Pig & Anchor offering smoked-on-board barbecue favorites and sides, as well as Guy’s Pig & Anchor Smokehouse Brewhouse serving craft beer brewed on board. Earlier this year, Fieri – along with Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Sammy Hagar – expanded his offerings aboard Carnival ships by introducing Guy and Sammy’s premium Santo Tequilas.

COSTA OPENS SALES FOR WINTER 2024/25 CRUISES

From December 2024 to March 2025, the Italian company will offer amazing vacations in the Mediterranean, Caribbean and Emirates.

Genoa, 31 May 2023 – Costa Cruises announces the itineraries for winter 2024/25. For those who want to book their vacations in advance, taking advantage of the benefits provided by Costa's rates, cruises departing from December 2024 to March 2025 are already available in travel agencies or directly on the website www.costacruises.com, offering a wide choice of vacations in the Mediterranean, the Caribbean and the United Arab Emirates.  This in addition to the new edition of the Around the World cruise, which will depart in December 2024 on a very special itinerary.

The most convenient destination from Europe, but also offering the possibility of experiencing a unique vacation even in winter, thanks to its variety of history, culture and nature, is the Mediterranean. The flagship Costa Toscana will set sail on weeklong cruises exploring Italy, France, Spain, with calls at the Balearic Islands and Sicily, visiting four destinations for more than 10 hours to make the most of the experiences ashore. The itinerary includes Savona, Marseille, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Palermo and Civitavecchia/Rome.

The Caribbean is an ideal destination for a break under the sun, between white sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters. Costa Fortuna and Costa Fascinosa will each offer two different alternating one-week itineraries that can be combined into a single two-week long vacation. The proposed formula is the "flight+cruise" package. Costa Fortuna will sail exclusively between the Lesser Antilles. The first itinerary includes Guadeloupe, Tortola, St. Marteen, Antigua, St. Lucia and Martinique; the second Guadeloupe, Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada, St. Vincent, Barbados and Martinique. All calls are at least 10 hours long, in order to experience these beautiful islands with ease, snorkeling, discovering local traditions or savoring Caribbean delicacies.

On the other hand, Costa Fascinosa first itinerary is a full immersion in the Dominican Republic, making long calls, between mangrove forests, coffee plantations, and a full day on Catalina, Costa's exclusive island. Calls include La Romana (Dominican Republic), Ocho Rios (Jamaica), Grand Turk, Amber Cove (Dominican Republic), Samana (Dominican Republic) and Catalina Island (Dominican Republic). The ship’s second itinerary explores six of the Caribbean's most beautiful islands, calling at La Romana (Dominican Rep.), St. Lucia, Barbados, Guadeloupe, Antigua, and the British Virgin Islands, to explore beaches, caves, botanical gardens or swim among the stingrays.

Another destination to experience a warm winter is the United Arab Emirates, where Costa Smeralda will be deployed. The week-long cruises will visit Dubai (UAE), with a two-day call, Muscat (Oman), Doha (Qatar), and Abu Dhabi (UAE), taking guests to experience the ancient traditions, nature as well as the futuristic cities of this area.

The 2025 edition of the Around the World Cruise, aboard Costa Deliziosa, will circumnavigate the globe mostly in the southern hemisphere, visiting Tierra del Fuego, Polynesia, New Zealand, Australia and South Africa. For the first time, the departure will be on December 7, 2024, allowing guests to enjoy the holiday season on a cruise. New Year's Eve in Rio de Janeiro will be an unforgettable experience, with fireworks display from Copacabana Beach.

Costa itineraries for winter 2024/25 are available for booking in Italy and North America; in the coming weeks, sales will also open in all other countries where Costa operates

Windstar Cruises Announces Deployment through Summer 2025

Cruises take place on Windstar’s six, intimate yachts:  three sailing, three all-suite

MIAMI, FL, May 9, 2023 – Small ship cruise line Windstar Cruises has released its sailing schedule through summer of 2025, with several key deployment moves for its fleet of six ships including three all-suite motor yachts and three classic sailing yachts.

“People are spending more and traveling longer, and they are taking notice of the tremendous value that a Windstar cruise provides,” says Windstar President Christopher Prelog. “Our new deployment works towards responding to those trends with longer and even more remote options in Tahiti, as well as more connections between different itineraries to extend trips in new and exciting ways.”
Key developments by region include:

South Pacific
Windstar will go beyond its usual Tahitian cruise stops (where the line has sailed for more than 35 years and is considered to be the small ship expert) to the extremely remote Marquesas Islands on the brand-new, 14-day
Tahitian Treasures & Magnificent Marquesas in 2024 and 2025 aboard all-suite, 312-guest Star Breeze. The cruise accesses the Tuamotu Islands of Fakarava and Rangiroa en route to and from the Marquesas, where the yacht spends time in Omoa, Fatu Hiva; Atuona, Hiva Oa; and Taiohae, Nuku Hiva, ending with the Society Islands of Tahaa, Bora Bora (an overnight), Moorea, and Papeete. Prelog says, “We’ve been hearing from travel advisors and guests that they want us to offer different cruises in Tahiti, and we’re pleased to be able to take them beyond the more expected locales to far-flung islands that have fewer than 1,000 residents.”

Canary Islands
Windstar will launch new cruises in the Canary Islands beginning in 2024 on all-suite, 312-guest Star Pride. The eight-day
Captivating Canary Islands from Lisbon to Las Palmas includes time on Madeira, as well as overnights in Funchal and Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

In 2025, two new itineraries in the region include the 10-day
Canary Island Idyll and 8-day Colorful Canary Islands with overnights or late nights to take in the renowned nightlife.

Mediterranean
Debuting in July of 2024,
Adriatic Icons & Venetian Treasures is a nine-day roundtrip cruise from Venice on board 148-guest motorized sailing yacht Wind Spirit.

Central and South America
Starting winter 2024, a new seven-day
Naturally Costa Rica cruise includes inaugural calls to enjoy the unspoiled Pacific coastline in San Juan del Sur and Corinto, Nicaragua. The new option, on 148-passenger motorized sailing yacht Wind Star, easily combines with a Panama Canal itinerary for a 14-day adventure in the region.

Middle East
Windstar is excited to introduce its guests to the
Middle East with first-ever itineraries beginning November 2023 on all-suite, 312-passenger Star Legend, taking guests to sites from world religions to Egyptian temples, Bedouin villages, and oil-rich cities that have risen from the desert over the past few decades.

Sail dates are now listed into spring of 2025, with 12 different itineraries to choose from. Indicative options include:

  • (10 days) from Dubai, UAE to Muscat, Oman and the reverse (with ports in UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, and Oman).

    • Note November 23 will feature optional tickets to the Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix (a Windstar exclusive)

    • A New James Beard Foundation cruise has been added to the 2/1/24 sail date, guest chef TBD

  • (9 days) from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia to Aqaba, (Petra) Jordan and the reverse (with ports in Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Jordan)

  • (18 days) from Athens, Greece to Dubai, UAE (with ports in Egypt, Jordan, Oman, and UAE)

Timed with the announcement is a new, limited-time offer where guests booking 2025 cruises in Europe, Tahiti, and Canada/New England receive a $100 per guest shipboard credit AND a free upgrade to All-Inclusive Fares, which means unlimited beer, wine, and cocktails; Wi-Fi; and gratuities. The offer expires July 5, 2023.

Oceania Cruises' Senior Culinary Director Alexis Quaretti Inducted into Maîtres Cuisiniers de France

Chef Alexis Quaretti was godfathered into the program by Oceania Cruises' Vice President of Culinary Eric Barale, making Oceania Cruises the only major cruise line to have two Master Chefs of France

MIAMI, May 30, 2023 -- Oceania Cruises, the world's leading culinary- and destination-focused cruise line, is proud to announce that Chef Alexis Quaretti, Senior Culinary Director, has been inducted into the prestigious echelons of the Maîtres Cuisiniers de France. Quaretti joins Oceania Cruises' Vice President of Culinary Eric Barale, who served as Quaretti's godfather into the program. As such, Oceania Cruises is the only major cruise line to boast two Master Chefs of France.

The association of Master Chefs of France was established in 1951. Its goal is to support and promote French culinary arts around the world. This mission is embodied by the chef members, as they are ambassadors of French cuisine and culture and are responsible for relaying this heritage to their apprentices.

"It's truly remarkable to have two Master Chefs of France leading our culinary team," said Frank A. Del Rio, President of Oceania Cruises. "Chef Eric and Chef Alexis are both long-standing members of the culinary team, Eric being one of the first members of Oceania Cruises' culinary family and Alexis joining us shortly after in 2004. The palpable kinship and passion throughout the culinary team prove that Oceania Cruises not only serves The Finest Cuisine at Sea® but also has the finest culinary team at sea."

"Being inducted into the Master Chefs of France is truly one of the biggest honors of my career, and I sincerely look forward to being part of this prestigious organization," said Alexis Quaretti, Senior Culinary Director at Oceania Cruises. "I have always been proud to represent French culinary ideals and am lucky to be able to bring the best of the best to Oceania Cruises. I would like to thank my friend and colleague Chef Eric Barale for being my godfather throughout the process and providing me with constant guidance and advice throughout my career."

Driven by the desire to make Oceania Cruises a destination for pleasure-seekers in search of one-of-a-kind experiences, Quaretti has created a menu of universal world flavors with his own French expertise and unique fondness for diverse products. His ever-changing menus celebrate the freshest ingredients and are inspired by his home country of France as well as his world travels. As the line's recipe development manager, Quaretti has designed, made and tested every dish served on an Oceania Cruises' ship. He and his talented team create approximately 300 new recipes each year to constantly revitalize and reinvigorate the onboard menus.

CARNIVAL CRUISE LINE RENOVATES ST. ANN’S BAY REGIONAL HOSPITAL PEDIATRIC LEARNING CENTRE

Carnival Crew Members Volunteer and Donate Needed Items in Honor of Jamaica’s Labour Day

ST. ANN, JAMAICA, May 23, 2023 – Carnival Cruise Line renovated the Pediatric Ward Learning Centre of St. Ann’s Bay Regional Hospital in St. Ann, Jamaica, dedicating volunteer time and donating needed items as part of the hospital’s Labour Day Volunteer Project. A group of 20 Carnival Horizon crew members spent the day cleaning up, painting and making repairs in the Learning Centre. They also read to children being treated in the Pediatric Ward, helping brighten the day for those young patients.

“We are proud to have been bringing visitors to Jamaica for more than 50 years, and care deeply about the health and well-being of the community,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. “It was our pleasure to make enhancements to St. Ann’s Learning Centre and we hope it will make a lasting difference for all the children treated there.”

Built in 1929, St. Ann’s Bay Regional Hospital serves a population of approximately 360,000 in the parishes of Portland, St. Mary and St. Ann. The Learning Centre offers children staying in the pediatric ward the opportunity to read and participate in other educational activities, providing respite from their treatment and continuing their learning while they’re away from school.

“We are so grateful for Carnival’s participation in our Labour Day Volunteer Project,” said Dennis Morgan, CEO of St. Ann’s Bay Regional Hospital. “Carnival’s improvements will ensure that we can continue to provide critical educational and psychological support for our young patients while they recover at a newly-renovated Learning Centre.”

To amplify its involvement in the Learning Centre Volunteer Project, Carnival partnered with American Friends of Jamaica, the cruise line’s foundation partner for charitable initiatives in Jamaica. Longtime nature adventure tour operator Chukka Caribbean Adventures also assisted, donating supplies and providing on-the-ground support for the project.

“It was our pleasure to partner with Carnival Cruise Line and American Friends of Jamaica to give back to the communities that we work within,” said Marc Melville, CEO of Chukka Adventures. “We thoroughly enjoyed working with the team at St. Ann’s Bay Regional Hospital on their pediatric ward. The children are our future, and any initiative that contributes to the enhancement of their quality of life is undoubtedly worth it.”

“When businesses unite to help communities, it is a win-win for everyone,” said Wendy Hart, president of American Friends of Jamaica. “We thank Carnival and Chukka for their participation in this Labour Day Volunteer Project, investing their time and resources to help improve the lives of Jamaicans.”

Carnival visits three ports in Jamaica: Falmouth, Montego Bay, and Ocho Rios. The cruise line will make about 100 calls to Jamaica and will bring more than 300,000 guests to the island in 2023

THE CRUISE DIVISION OF MSC GROUP’S NEW FLAGSHIP – MSC EURIBIA - TO SAIL WORLD-FIRST CRUISE WITH NET ZERO GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS

Please note: some posts may contain affiliate links which means our team could earn money if you purchase products from our site

THE CRUISE DIVISION OF MSC GROUP’S NEW FLAGSHIP – MSC EURIBIA - TO SAIL WORLD-FIRST CRUISE WITH NET ZERO GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS

Geneva, Switzerland – May 25, 2023 – The Cruise Division of MSC Group will operate the industry’s first cruise with net zero greenhouse gas emissions next week with MSC Cruises’ latest flagship, the liquefied natural gas (LNG)-powered MSC Euribia. The voyage will the ship’s first upon leaving her shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France – where she is currently being built – as she sails to her naming ceremony in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The new ship—the 22nd in MSC Cruises’ fleet—will sail for four days from Saint-Nazaire to Copenhagen, achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions to demonstrate that net zero cruising is possible today. MSC Euribia will depart from France on June 3 and is scheduled to arrive in Denmark on June 7.

Pierfrancesco Vago, Executive Chairman of the Cruise Division of MSC Group, said: “This industry-first net zero gas emissions voyage of our latest flagship MSC Euribia heralds another significant step on our decarbonization journey and demonstrates more than anything the extent of our commitment.”

MSC Cruises purchased 400 tons of bio-LNG toward the pioneering net zero gas emissions voyage to show its commitment to the deployment of drop-in renewable fuels and energy transition measures. The line is the industry’s first deep sea ocean cruise operator to buy bio-LNG as a fuel source that has significant lifecycle emissions reductions.

Mr. Vago continued: “We cannot do this alone, however. Given the absolute importance of alternative fuels for our industry as well as for other sectors across civil society to achieve decarbonization, we all need to work together to increase their availability at scale. Our purchase of bio-LNG will send a clear and meaningful signal to the market that there is demand from cruise lines and the broader maritime industry for cleaner fuels, but we need governments, producers, and end-users to collaborate and scale-up the availability of these much-needed and new sources of power.”

The net zero sailing will utilize bio-LNG by virtue of a mass-balance system, the most environmentally efficient method of delivering the benefits of renewable biogas. The entire supply chain will be fully compliant with the European Union’s Renewable Energy Directive, commonly known as RED II, and each individual batch of the total bio-LNG produced has been certified by the International Sustainability & Carbon Certification.

Michele Francioni, SVP, MSC Cruises, added, “MSC Euribia’s first voyage will be an incredible feat and represents years of commitment and determination. It should prove that we have the capability to operate on a net zero greenhouse gas emissions basis with existing ship technology. This is just the beginning. We are committed to this transition and putting in place everything we can do to facilitate it. It cannot be done without alternative fuels such as bio-LNG, e-LNG, green hydrogen or green methanol being made widely available at scale to fully realize the vision of net zero cruising.”

MSC Cruises is being supported by Nordic energy company Gasum for the net zero greenhouse gas emissions voyage, a leading producer of biogas and processor of biodegradable waste fractions in the Nordic region.

The speed and itinerary of MSC Euribia’s maiden voyage has been designed specifically to optimize the configuration and loads of the engines to minimize fuel consumption. Dedicated energy efficiency specialists from both MSC Cruises and the ship’s constructor, Chantiers de L’Atlantique, will be on board the net zero sailing to monitor and optimize every aspect of this journey. They will work with the Master of the Vessel, Captain Stefano Battinelli, and MSC Euribia’s Chief Engineer, Pasquale Mastellone.

MSC Cruises’ shore-based energy efficiency experts based in London will continuously monitor and optimize all systems on board to minimize energy demand, identifying additional opportunities to improve energy efficiency in real-time while maintaining high comfort for all guests on board.

This will include a range of measures from the configuration of the engines down to the speed of individual air-conditioning fans in guest cabins, together with the itinerary and speed optimization.

All of the combined initiatives will save energy to reduce fuel consumption.

MSC Cruises’ newbuilds are fuel flexible ships that can accommodate a variety of renewable fuels available today and expected in the future. The use of fossil LNG already achieves up to a 20 per cent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions when compared to conventional marine fuels, and virtually eliminates all sulphur oxide and particulate emissions while also reducing nitrogen oxides by 85 percent.

SEATTLE (May 21, 2023) – With a patriotic salute and special celebration, Princess Cruises today welcomed one of the few surviving Tuskegee Airmen onboard Discovery Princess in Seattle as he arrived for his celebratory cruise to Alaska, marking an early commemoration for his 100th birthday. Lieutenant Colonel James H. Harvey III, retired United States Army Air Corps and Air Force officer (USAF), shattered racial barriers in the military as a part of a group of African American pilots who served their country with legendary distinction during World War II.

To honor Harvey, the McChord Field Honor Guard welcomed him and his family aboard Discovery Princess with a USAF traditional display of presenting colors. Topping out the festivities, the Discovery Princess crew presented Lt Col Harvey with a birthday cake while hundreds of the ship’s company joined in wishing him a happy birthday.

“It’s our sincere honor to celebrate the 100th birthday of Lieutenant Colonel Harvey III, a trailblazer, hero, and real ‘Top Gun,’” said John Padgett, Princess Cruises president. “His life and legacy should remind everyone the power of courage, determination, resilience and the American spirit. From all of us at Princess Cruises, we salute Lt. Col. Harvey and wish him a very happy 100th birthday!

Born in Montclair, New Jersey on July 13, 1923, Harvey is a former fighter pilot with the 332nd Fighter Groups 99th Squadron, best known as the Tuskegee Airmen, “Red Tails,” one of 1,007 documented pilots trained for aerial combat during World War II. He is best known as the first African American USAF jet fighter combat pilot to fight in the Korean War and flew 140 missions from 1949 to 1950. Harvey, along with every member of the Tuskegee Airmen, received the Congressional Gold Medal in 2006.

In addition, Harvey won the USAF’s very first “Top Gun” competition in 1949, when he and his team lead a grueling 10-day event comprised on aerial gunnery at 20,000 and 12,000 feet, dive bombing, skip bombing, rocketing firing and panel strafing.

After serving a combined 22 years (1943-1965) in the United States Army Air Corps and the United States Air Force, Harvey retired and joined Oscar Mayer as a corporate salesman and settled his family of four girls in Denver, where he still resides.

During the voyage Harvey will share insights from his storied service and remarkable life experiences with other guests as part of a scheduled onboard discussion. Discovery Princess is currently sailing on weeklong, roundtrip cruises from Seattle to Alaska, departing every Sunday through September.

Galveston Cruise Terminal Getting $53 Million Makeover for Carnival Jubilee Arrival

Galveston Cruise Terminal Getting $53 Million Makeover for Carnival Jubilee Arrival

Galveston, TX (May 19, 2023) – The Galveston Wharves is investing $53 million in a major expansion at Cruise Terminal 25 to accommodate Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival Jubilee, a new cruise ship arriving in December.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming the beautiful new Carnival Jubilee to our improved cruise terminal,” said Rodger Rees, Galveston Wharves port director and CEO. “We’re proud to have Carnival Cruise Line, our long-time cruise partner, choose Galveston as the home port for its newest ship.”

With a capacity of 6,500 guests, Carnival Jubilee is larger than the Carnival ships currently sailing from the terminal. Construction plans include improvements to accommodate the ship, move guests efficiently during debarkation and embarkation, and update the two-decades-old terminal, Rees said.

Carnival Jubilee features six unique activity zones and specialty restaurants featuring chefs Emeril Lagasse, Shaquille O’Neil, Guy Fieri, and Rudy Sodamin. Beginning in December, Carnival Jubilee will sail from Galveston with seven-day itineraries to Western Caribbean destinations. (Renderings courtesy Carnival Cruise Line)

Construction plans include gangway modifications, a ramp, two elevators and an escalator, as well as a new roof. The new gangways are being built in Spain. Rees added that cruise operations will continue during the project.

The port also will make mandated improvements to facilities used by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, which provides essential safety and security services at the terminal.

Investing in the Future

Rees said that these improvements are a long-term investment in the port’s future growth, more jobs and a stronger regional economy. As the fourth most popular cruise port in the U.S. and the only home port in Texas, the port generates two-thirds of its revenues from its cruise business. Rees added that the port reinvests net operational revenues in capital projects to grow its business.

In 2022, the port’s cruise activity generated 3,500 jobs, $568 million in local business revenue and $73.5 million in local purchases by passengers and crew. The port is on track to set new records in 2023 as the result of more people cruising, new and larger ships sailing from Galveston, and the opening of a third cruise terminal in late 2022.

The port will fund the cruise terminal expansion with cash reserves, a proposed bond issue and an agreement with Carnival

“Carnival was the first major cruise line to homeport in Galveston more than 20 years ago. They believed in us then and believe in Galveston’s growing prominence as a top cruise port today,” Rees said.
